Clockwork Mechanisms
Throughout history, wooden cogs and ratchet wheels have been used for many different tasks, from mill mechanisms to siege engines.
As metallurgy and manufacturing technologies developed, it became possible to create metal gear wheels and spring mechanisms. This allowed for the creation of automatic machinery, as well as smaller clockwork mechanisms, and even man-portable weaponry.
