How It Works
Overview
The Erebus Contagion and its setting of Nova Secundus is a modified “West Marches” style meta-chronicle using the various Rulebooks of the Chronicles of Darkness and the Contagion Chronicle as the basis. So what does that all mean? Well let's start with a meme to demonstrate the issue. That is the issue. And this is where the West Marches come in. Originally developed as a style of sandbox campaign running for D&D, we are adapting the format for Chronicles of Darkness.Joining A Chronicle
These are two types of chronicles run. The first is the Sequence chronicle, these are mostly independent, instanced chronicles that anyone can run within the city. The second are the Crisis chronicles, which are special "metaplot" focused chronicles about the contagion itself. Steps to prepare and join here apply to both types of chronicles.- First create your character if you do not yet already have one.
- Go to our active list of chronicles and apply to the one, or multiples, you wish to using your chosen character.
- If the chronicle requires an up front committal of sessions ensure you can make them. If something changes update the storyteller as soon as possible.
- Once accepted play!
Remember to keep a log of events and connections your character has made for your own use and present this when joining a new chronicle.
Running A Chronicle
Sequence
In a sequence chronicle you can tell virtually any story you wish to within and surrounding the city of Nova Secundus. You do not need to be selected, any player can host a sequence chronicle and we in fact encourage players who have now been an ST or any GM to try it out. Only two exceptions exist for a Sequence: Control of contagion and The Investors which is reserved for lead storytellers. Though events from the Contagion may be used for background detail.- Work out what your sequence is about. Which splats is it for? What part of the city will it feature? How long will it run for? Will it be voice or pbp (play-by-post)?
- Contact "The Investors" on Discord and tell them about your game. If you need access to World Anvil and Discord channels these will then be setup.
- Recruit your players!
- Run your chronicle!
- Keep a log after every session and write up the events on World Anvil. As storyteller you are also responsible for checking character sheets.
Crisis
A crisis chronicle is where the presence of contagion makes itself known.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
