Forest Nation

Land:

  • Biome is primarily lush deciduous forests, with wetter jungles in the northern region
  • Climate is warm and wet, especially in the northern region. The eastern border is blocked by a massive mountain range, which also separates the northern and southern regions, which are only accessible by boat. The western coast features a gorgeous view of the ocean, and a river on the northern border separates them from the mountain nation. The region is almost entirely forested, with very little open space. Numerous lakes and rivers cut through the dense woods.
  • Flora– Deciduous trees, ferns
  • Fauna– Wolves, bears, deer, rabbits, squirrels, birds, snakes, lizards

People:

  • Inspiration– East Asia and Eastern Europe
  • Skin tone ranges from pale to tan, with warm undertones
  • Eyes can be any color, though brown and black are far more common; usually monolids or almonds
  • Hair is usually dark, thick, and coarse, with textures ranging from 1a to 2b
  • Build is typically petite and lithe
  • There is a clear distinction between inhabitants of the northern and southern regions, which used to be two separate regions. Those from the northern region are more Asian-looking, with darker hair and eyes, while those from the south are more European-based, with fairer skin and hair and blue or green eyes. The groups have homogenized somewhat over time, but there is a relatively clear distinction between the two groups.
  • Clothing tends to be close-fitting to keep from snagging on the abundant flora. Lots of brightly colored dyes are used, and nearly everything is plant-based. Armor is made from leather
  • Jewelry and accessories are rare, made with feathers, snakeskin, or bone
  • Many people get colorful tattoos to commemorate important events, such as marriage, having a child, or making any kind of major accomplishment. Others can tell how full a life they've lived based on the number of tattoos visible. The designs always feature some kind of plant with a symbolic tie to the event.

Society:

  • Government– no idea. I know they're very focused on arcane and scientific advancements. Technocratic?
  • Economy– Major exports include produce, spices, medicine, dyes, and fabric, and major imports include? Goods are transported by gondola through the trees, or by boat between regions and to the island nation. Trade with the desert nation is very limited, as there are very few passes through the mountain range that separates them. The most common occupations include farmers, hunters, and tailors. Upper class citizens work as doctors, scientists, or mages.
  • Settlements– Much of the wilderness remains untouched, and even the areas that have been settled have not been cleared. Cities are built in the trees rather than on the ground, leaving room for greenery down below. They use liquid sun as fertilizer in the areas where natural sunlight is blocked by buildings. Buildings are grown directly from the trees like the elven cities in Eragon, connected by rope bridges and wire gondolas. Those who can't afford public transport or just want to be delinquents climb the cables by hand.
Culture-
  • The forest people are very environmentally conscious, building their cities in the trees so as to disturb the wildlife as little as possible. They are very scientifically and medically advanced, determined to find uses for everything around them so nothing goes to waste. Draconic magic is quite prominent as well, and mages are highly respected. Intelligence and innovation are very highly valued.
History-
  • That One War that Happened

The Forest Nation started as two separate nations, which didn't have much contact with each other due to the mountain range separating them. At one point, the southern region was invaded by the Desert Nation, and a bunch of refugees fled through the mountains to find help. The northern region, being already quite large and powerful, agreed to form an alliance with them and help fight off the invaders. As the war progressed and the two groups learned more about each other, they discovered that many of their laws and values were already quite similar. Plus, both regions had access to resources that the other did not, so working together benefitted both regions. At the end of the war, which they did win, the two nations officially merged.
