Session 0.5 - Shadowsong, the 7th of Harvestfall
General Summary
The Dead Rat Inn was alive with raucous laughter and the clinking of tankards as the eclectic group of adventurers found themselves sharing stories and drinks. The flickering candlelight cast a warm glow on the worn wooden tables, and the smell of stale ale hung in the air. The two brothers who ran the establishment, were busy behind the bar, pouring drinks and wiping down dirty mugs.
As the night wore on, Gale, the tabaxi bard, rose from his seat with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "This time of night is when interesting things happen in towns like these, and someone needs to witness them to tell the stories. I will see you all on the ship tomorrow," he declared before dashing into the night, leaving his curious companions behind.
Moments later, the peaceful atmosphere shattered as a belligerent thug, fueled by liquid courage, groped the waitress. The party's earlier confrontation with the same thug had left tensions high, and now the situation escalated. Maylin attempted to intimidate the thugs with a warning, but they ignored her, and Kaldor bluffed, suggesting they take the confrontation outside.
The arrival of the bouncer and the waitress only intensified the chaos. In a matter of seconds, the barroom became a battleground. Pharox attempted to throw his glass at the thugs, missing his mark, while Maylin transformed into a bear, mauling one of the thugs before slipping on the slick sludge covering the floor.
Amalfi's mace and inflict wounds spell proved deadly, and Alana, ever the rogue, opted for "non-lethal" methods, stabbing a man in the lower back. Despite Pharox's suggestion to stab him in the ass, Alana deemed it too obscene.
The brawl reached its climax when the instigator, standing on the bar, blew a ball of fire in Amalfi's face. Though momentarily incapacitated, Amalfi quickly recovered thanks to Pharox's healing word. The fight raged on, with Kaldor engaging in a skirmish of his own.
As the dust settled and the battered party caught their breath, one of the inn's owners urged them to leave before the City Watch arrived. Seizing the opportunity, the adventurers gathered loose coins from the fallen thugs and made a hasty exit.
Regrouping at The Toad & Duergar Inn, the party took stock of their spoils—gold, a Speak with Animals scroll for Kaldor, and a Ring of Feather Fall for Pharox. The night ended with most finding rest in the inn and Maylin curling up under the protective canopy of Centretree Green, each with tales to tell and wounds to mend before their journey to the Skeggs.

Notes
Barroom Blitz Layer Action on Initiative 0:
1 | A tray of drinks is spilled as a patron runs past: Place a 20-foot diameter circle on the map (Roll 2d10 for coordinates of the center). Any creature that tries to move inside the circle must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone. Only one save per turn needs to be made. This hazard stays for the entire encounter. |
2 | A person from the crowd attempts to grapple a player: Athletics or Acrobatics check DC 13. On a fail, the player is grappled for one round. |
3 | Two pieces of furniture are thrown at the brawlers: Decide what is tossed in. It can be a table, chair, or anything that might be in a tavern. These become difficult terrain and can be used to hide behind or picked up in the fight. |
4 | Reinforcements arrive: Add another thug to the encounter. Put them in the same initiative spot as the other thugs. |
5 | One of the thugs cuts the rope holding up the chandelier: It comes crashing down! All creatures in a 20-foot radius of the center of the map must make a Dexterity saving throw DC 13 or suffer 2d6 bludgeoning damage and are knocked prone. This can only be done once. |
6 | One of the thugs takes a huge gulp of a mug: He sparks a flint and steel, spits it out, and lights it! Any creature within a 10-foot cone needs to make a DC 13 Dexterity save or suffer 3d6 fire damage on a fail or half as much on a success. |
7 | A brawler accidentally knocks over a table with spilled ale: The area within a 15-foot radius becomes difficult terrain, and creatures entering the area must make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone. Additionally, the spilled ale is flammable, and any open flame in the area has a 50% chance of igniting, causing a small fire that deals 1d6 fire damage to creatures in the affected area at the start of their turn until extinguished. |
8 | A barmaid rushes through the chaos, dropping slippery condiments: Choose a 15-foot line on the map. The area becomes slippery, requiring creatures to make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw when entering or exiting. On a fail, they fall prone. Additionally, the condiments create a lingering stench, and creatures within the area have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks relying on smell for 1 minute. |
9 | A bard in the corner begins playing a lively tune: All creatures within 30 feet of the bard must make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a fail, they are charmed and lose their next turn in admiration. |
10 | A drunk patron starts a brawl: Two random creatures within 10 feet of the patron must make a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be restrained in a grapple for one round. Additionally, the commotion draws the attention of a nearby group of patrons who become hostile to everyone in the vicinity, attacking the nearest creature. |
11 | The bartender throws a bucket of water on the floor to stop the fire: The area within a 15-foot radius becomes wet and slippery. Creatures in the area have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws and ability checks. Additionally, the sudden wetness causes a cloud of steam to envelop the area, creating a fog cloud centered on the point where the water was thrown. The fog cloud lasts for 1 minute or until a wind of moderate or greater speed (at least 10 miles per hour) disperses it. |
12 | A mysterious potion spills onto the floor: A 10-foot radius cloud of noxious gas appears at a random point on the map. Creatures within or entering the area must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for one minute. |
