Bear Trap Root

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Bear Trap Root is a form of Venus fly trap that burrows under the sands of Krymzk. Like it's cousin, the Snap Dragon Root, the Bear Trap is a large plant, consisting of one--or multiple--central stem(s) ending in a mouth like pad. Each mouth has a set of teeth, and true to it's name, if one were to step on one of these mouth, it would snap onto the victims leg, snaring them, and getting what little water they can from the victims blood.

Biological Traits

As a predator plant, despite how much of a threat it is to those travelling Krymzk, it is still the least hearty, and is easy to kill if one uproots it.

Genetics and Reproduction

After seven months, the root grows a stem the breaches the sand, which has seed pods that are carried on the wind. Typically a sandstorm is best to carry the seeds, as the torrential winds will carry the seeds the farthest.

Growth Rate & Stages

A Bear Trap Root takes eight months to fully mature, and during the first two months the seed begins to sprout, while during the next two months grows, till it bursts through the surface of the sand. During months five and six, the plant grows its mouths, and continues to grow through it's final months, as the plant submerges itself beneath the sand.

Ecology and Habitats

The Plant only grows in Krymzk, as it has adapted to Krymzk harsh environment, and temperature threshold. One could grow Bear Trap in another desert, but most deserts are too hot for the plant. Thus if one were to grow Bear Trap, they'd need to create a green house that replicates Krymzk's specific temperature threshold.

Dietary Needs and Habits

One can find Bear Trap in plenty along beaches, but throughout the rest of the desert the plant struggles to survive. It gets some water from the blood of it's victims, but very little, and can only survive off blood if the victim dies, or if it's slayed by another predator.

Biological Cycle

During the winter months the root goes through a process of detaching itself from the stem, and hibernates till the winter is over, growing a new stem during spring.
