Miss Liana's Orphanage
"Good morning class!" Miss Liana sung.
"Good morning Miss Liana!" The students said in unison.
"Oh, so many have come today, lovely lovely! Well then, let us begin."
She directed the students to collect their slates, and began writing on the board.
"The key to keeping..." her voice continued, but a Manny was having trouble paying attention already. He dropped into the class because he had nowhere else to stay, and all the kids on the street knew that you could slip into her class for at least a little bit if you needed to. Most didn't last though.
He leaned back in his chair. Immediately Miss Liana went silent, and stared at him.
"Good sir, you will keep your chair steady!"
He settled back into his seat.
"Good." She said, and returned to her lesson.
Well, it was an honest mistake, he thought.
It was only five minutes before he slipped up again, he had begun to pick his nose and Miss Liana swatted his hand with her wisthread.
"Don't you dare young man!"
His wrist stung badly, and he shrunk away from all of the faces that had turned to see him.
The class started again, and Manny couldn't stay still for the life of him. He rubbed at his wrist under his desk, and fought to keep himself motionless. The students around him seemed to do fine.
He couldn't do it, his bouncing leg bumped against his desk and made another sound that Miss Liana noticed.
"This is the third time you have interrupted my class, we are trying to learn here!" She yelled.
Manny couldn't speak.
"Out young man, and no lunch for you." She pointed to the door.
Manny slumped out, head low.
"Posture," She said, drawing out the word until he straightened out.
Purpose / Function
It hosts up to seventy children per class, with two classes at a time, and three classes per day. One set is for the younger children, and teaches literacy, meditation, cleanliness, and morals. The other is for older students, and teaches arithmatic, work ethic, ettiqutte, and social studies.
The school also provides a lunch to those who come in to learn, but misbehaving students are not allowed to eat. The hope is that those children may learn to better behave, lest they starve.
In the end, the students who cannot behave end up not going to the school very much, and the graduating classes are full of happy prim and proper students, which keeps the donations rolling in from the middle class citizens of the city.
Alterations
Originally it was built as a simple school for the poor and needy, with a small classroom and attached kitchen. Over time it has grown to a full shelter for homeless kids who need a space to grow and learn.
It receives most of its funding from charitable donations, with most people seeing the wonderful proper children that graduate each year.
Architecture
It is a simple wattle and daub building in the poor outskirts of Rocciano, with two floors. The orphans all sleep upstairs, and below their space is two classrooms and a kitchen. The classrooms are also used for dining and office work when class is not in session.
History
Owned by Liana's Mother and Grandmother before her, the three generations have built a reputation of good heartedness and charity.
When it was first founded, very few children in the area could read, and now literacy has rocketed up in recent generations. The same goes for the positives of offering free lunches to the children. There are certainly a number of issues, mostly with their cruel nature to misbehaving kids.
Overall, they are certainly an established and trusted community centre.
