Zmialoar Nullifier

As the light of the silver moon rose high, full for the first time. I looked down at the harness that had been attached to me with a moment of fear, I don't want to change again. With a bright silver pulse, I felt the urge to transform halt. A wave of relief filled my form.
— The experience of using a Zmialoar Nullifier

The Zmialoar Nullifier is an ancient piece of technology that allows a Lycanthrope to halt all transformations. It was originally created during the Age of Creation, and was seemingly lost during the course of The Shatter. By 597 AR, a version of the Nullifier was found and reverse engineered by a group of Lycanthropes in the Livewood Forest.

Description

While the original design for the Zmialoar Nullifier is unclear in the modern day, the version found in the ruins was primarily just the core components of the device. When manufactured in the modern era, the Zmialoar Nullifier is a harness that is worn underneath clothing. It has a thick disc in the center of the chest, which has four vials of crimson liquid and a white crystal disc. When worn during a full moon, the crystal is injected with one of the crimson vials, which empowers the device. This means that the harness can be used four times before it needs to be recharged and restocked with the crimson vials.

Pre-Shatter

Notes found within the ancient ruins of Kranisthan, an Age of Creation city of natural mages, indicate that such a device was first created to help allow those inflicted with Lycanthropy control their transformations through the use of hemocraft and technology. Apparently the hemocraft originated from an ancient collective of druids who were created to gift and shape the ability to control the blood of others.   Notes also indicate that Kranisthan had a larger version of the Nullifier to help all those who were involuntarily transforming halt this transformation. The power source of such a large machine was said to be at such a great cost that the city eventually deactivated the machine to ensure the safety of the people within the city. However, this put the city at risk during The Shatter, as it allowed Chrovor to encase the city in a protective bubble and siphon the life force of the people within the city.

Age of Restoration

In 597 AR, a group of blood-based lycanthropes known as the Maktirfola entered the ruins of the city Kranisthan in the western Livewood Forest. In delving deep into the ruins, the Maktirfola found a set of notes and an interesting device that when put together indicated how to create their own version of the Zmialoar Nullifier. As a result, they took the device interested in its capabilities and how it could help any new members they meet control their bloodthirsty desires and let them each learn to control their transformations.   The Maktirfola shared their knowledge with a few members of a hemocratic order and they were able to eventually recreate the device by 600 AR. Combining their knowledge the group hid their existence as those who use hemocraft for good. As a result, the Zmialoar Nullifier has become a rarity, with many of the devices being spread among the hemocratic order.

What a great piece of technology. I really like the prose at the beginning, it very much captures the vibes of the article.
