Sataarin

She was floating, it was a strange moment. Her usual magical potential was heightened to allow her to pull the roof off a building. The most power she had demonstrated before was to move small rocks. This must be studied.
— A wizard's journal witnessing a Sataarin

The Sataarin are a group of powerful people who were transformed under the passing of the Glaudrin Comet. They are represented across all people of the world and are closely linked to possessing telekinetic and telepathic powers.

Description

Many Sataarin resemble other members of their ancestry, blending into those around them regardless of their status. When they stand out, it is often through their hair color which is either a brilliant white or deep green. Some scholars have found that different Sataarin from throughout the years have a unique sense of magic and if they are able to cast spells, its color is unpredictable and changes constantly. Additionally, scholars have noted that Sataarin seem to be able to live longer than traditional members of their ancestry, this extension has been recorded to be at least 50 years.   Regardless of their appearance, each Sataarin can find themselves empowered, especially if the Glaudrin Comet is passing. While empowered, each Sataarin seems to have an afterimage of their movements. It seemingly sparks with a green and white energy. While empowered in this way, this afterimage aura radiates an intense heat that almost feels like burning if someone steps too close.

History

There are two proposed origins for the Sataarin, each of which surround the existence of the Glaudran Comet. Regardless of the origin, it seems that Sataarin are a transformed people as a result of the passing of the comet. In this case, they are not a distinct ancestry, but instead are a people connected by an event and celestial body that empowers their physical forms. The Glaudran Comet seems to pass Nonvyrox once every 25 to 40 years, but does not follow a consistent pattern.   The first proposed origin is that the Sataarin are being affected by an ancient magical ritual. In The Dawning, a powerful entity or even one of the gods cast a ritual invoking the Comet and causing it to reflect back the transformation each time it passes. While this theory could make sense, none of the gods have ever claimed to have done such an event and it doesn't align with how powerful rituals worked in this time.   The second proposed origin of Sataarin is that the Glaudran Comet contains the presence of a powerful figure from some point in Nonvyrox's history. Whether it is though to be a primordial titan, an aberrant horror, or the husk of a dead god, scholars who follow this theory remain skeptical of it and are looking for a more proof of what the figure is to decide whether or not to trust it.

Powers and Abilities

There are two primary states that a Sataarin can be in, each of which provide them with a different amount of powers, Dormant and Empowered. More Dormant Sataarin have been encountered and studied as they are more prominent around the world, but the Empowered Sataarin that have been written about or studied have an overwhelming sense of power.

Dormant

While Dormant, many Sataarin are unaware of their transformation, only really recognizing that their lifespan has been extended and maybe a small amount of telekinetic or telepathic power. Dormant Sataarin seem to possess the ability to guide an attack against a directed target, striking them more consistently.   Many Sataarin with magical potential find themselves able to innately detect thoughts around them, which can often be overwhelming for the Sataarin and lead them down a path of confusion and pain.

Empowered

Once a Sataarin has been Empowered, whether by proximity to the Glaudrin Comet, or by the invocation of a powerful emotion, their powers climb drastically. They retain all of their Dormant abilities, but find that they are greatly enhanced.   An Empowered Sataarin gain telepathy out to all those they can see, hearing their thoughts and being able to communicate with them. This telepathic connection also allows them to draw upon the most joyful and darkest memories of a target and trap them within that memory for a time. This mental prison is difficult to break while within the presence of the Empowered Sataarin.   Empowered Sataarin also gain the ability to telekinetically move objects, though they are limited by some metaphyiscal limit. In some cases this has allowed them to rip buildings into pieces, or fracture the top of a mountain. It is a cataclysmic event should an unchecked Empowered Sataarin wish to destroy an area while empowered.   The last thing noted as a significant change when encountering an Empowered Sataarin is that they gain the ability to manipulate their density temporarily. Through the use of both telepathy and telekinesis, an Empowered Sataarin can either make themselves more dense, dealing heavier stirkes, or less dense, allowing them to float and fly with ease.

I really love the idea that they are empowered by a comet, rather than a moon or something. :)

I wanted to look at a different celestial body. Though there are definitely people empowered by one of the moons...
