Leycordia

With a simple command word, dwen'thaar, the circles creak and slowly start to turn. The veyltrith and mondera each shift over each other and seemingly alter the guidng stone in the middle towards a new pathway. It seems that the lines have moved and our journey is heading northwards again. I thank the Storm Queen for her guidance.
— The diary of Tundaris Stormborn.

The Leycordia is a navigational tool that was created to follow the Leylines of the world. It was created by Tundaris Stormborn, who has been the leader of the Stormguard for the past 63 years. Many among the Stormguard believe that the Leycordia is guiding them towards a greater purpose and understanding of existence.

Description

Made up on six concentric circles of Black Steel, the center of the Leycordia is a pointed and sharpened stone. When used, the circles and stone seemingly point in the direction that the leyline is flowing, towards the closest Nexus. Engraved into the metal circles a set of Runic incantations that are supposed to keep the Leycordia working.   When activated, the runes along the concentric circles seem to glow with a faint light as the circles move and shift around the stone. The guiding stone in the center seems to point in a direction following and influenced by each of the different circles as they move to aim towards the Leylines.

History

The idea for the Leycordia came to Tundaris Stormborn in a dream after he found a collection of same sized rings of Black Steel. He awoke and immediately copied the runes he witnessed in his dreams onto the rings. A seeming fervor coming over him in the course of the night. By dawn, the runes had been carved and the item was complete. Tundaris took his spear and removed the spearhead to place it in the middle of the device. In doing so it activated for the first time and seemingly set a direction to travel in.   Tundaris gathered his family and close friends and the group set off within a week, taking their stuff with them. From here, the Stormguard were created as fervent followers of Mandra, whom they called the Storm Queen. They followed the Leycordia to see where it would lead them. Having set off from deep within the Ossaman Tribes, they found that there were many situations that required their help wherever they went.   By 755 AR, Tundaris has had to repair the Leycordia at least seven times, which has resulted in a strange patchwork of different metals along the concentric circles that had originally been formed. Additionally the spearhead has been replaced by a dedicated sharpened stone that helped to guide the Stormguard. They have found themselves currently back home in the Ossaman Tribes and are awaiting the next activation of the Leycordia to determine where they go next.

It sounds like a beautiful device. I wonder when it will be active again.
