Kokaema, The Lifeblood Tree

The Lifeblood Tree is a sacred tree in Myrwood that was created by Mandra at the intersection of powerful ley lines. While it is often considered to be alive just in the sense of a plant, the tree contains a true conciouness. This entity, known as Kokaema, is an ancient Firbolg follower of Mandra who was her champion and imparted into the tree upon their death.

Description

Appearence

The Lifeblood Tree stands easily over fourty foot tall, when viewed from a distance some may say that it looks fairly plain other than its stature. However, when you approach the tree, you notice that its leaves are a combination of silver, red and green. The tree almost seems to glow and sparkle when underneath the tree.   Many people have tried, but yet everyone has been unable to identify the type of tree, though they were able to tell that it was created and transported through a type of divine magic.

Personality

Kokaema, when spoken to is always kind and friendly. They seem to be in a state of eternal happiness. However, catch them on a bad day, or do something that upsets them and the voice that emanates from the tree will bellow and growl in an almost bestial way that can bring terror to even the most steadfast of hearts. These days are uncommon but always directed at specific individuals.

History

In the final days of The Shatter, Mandra used some of her last remaining power to place The Lifeblood Tree, a shining beacon in the dark days of the world to act as a home for those who sought her refuge. Additionally, it had a warding effect that would protect those who were of pure heart from The Deceiver Gods and their minions who were often attacking mortals as well as the other deities involved in the conflict. One notable champion of Mandra held the course around the tree to help ensure that these wards would hold, Kokaema, an ancient Firbolg who was the leader of a druidic circle within the Myrwood.   Before the final day of The Shatter, which would be the day of The Parting, when all gods would be locked away behind the Tynau. Kokaema was killed in a battle with a minion of The Faceless One, a lichling named Verian-Lars, Kokaema was pierced through the chest by a powerful blade crafted by the casting of a spell. Mandra was made aware of this happening as she could feel the power she had lent to them return.   In the moments before The Parting, Mandra was able to grab the soul of Kokaema and place it inside of The Lifeblood Tree, forever linking the two together. Furthermore, she was able to place a sliver of her divine power into the two, imbuing them with some form of celestial power, in essence allowing for the tree to become a spirit of the wilds should it wish. In doing so, Mandra made it possible for the tree to communicate with those that it wished to, additionally imbuing them with some form of magical powers that were beyond Kokaema in life.   As of this day, Kokaema still stands in the centre of Myrwood, however it is significantly more difficult to truly meet with Kokaema as many illusions and other magics have been placed that would disorient a person wishing to visit The Lifeblood Tree directly. However, those who are successful and speak to the tree often find themselves being recounted stories of the world before the destruction that was The Shatter. Even more so, Kokaema can impart the knowledge of some of their premonitions into the minds of an individual that they deem worthy of seeing them.

Relationships

Mandra

Kokaema has a strong connection with Mandra, particularly as they were once her champion during the most prominent event of the world thus far, The Shatter. However, over the years there has been a slight souring in their relationship. After The Parting, the spirit of Mandra sent forth many of her clerics to learn information from Kokaema and to pass on many stories and messages to each other. This for a long time meant that The Lifeblood Tree became a special temple and location for the clerics and followers of Mandra. This drastically changed over the years, as the Firbolg people of the forest put up magics to protect the tree, less and less people have visited Kokaema. As a result, they believe that Mandra no longer cares for them, putting a frustration in their heart.

Corvina

Corvina has always kept a close eye on all mortals, both living and dead. However, she has always had a fascination for the mortals who became an immortal. As a result she often visits Kokaema to peer in on their life and ask them questions about how they feel so they can be very aware of the different parts of their life. Once, many years ago, Corvina was able to pull Kokaema from the tree's spirit for a single day. In doing so, they gave the Firbolg champion the chance to explore the world that he fought so hard to save. This brought the nature spirit and the goddess closer together. Now Kokaema looks forward to her visits, even learning how to utilise some of their magic to give them new flowers each time they arrive.

I'd love to visit Kokaema for the stories. Less so the premonitions, but the stories would be marvellous.
