The Imperial Coronation of the Ossalimarian Empire is the event that takes place upon the death of the current ruler of the Ossalimarian Empire. The event has occurred 10 times since the founding of the Ossalimarian Empire, with the traditions seemingly linked through the decisions of many incoming rulers.

Description

The Imperial Coronation is a central tradition in the Ossalimarian Empire as it proclaims the new Emperor or Monarch upon their taking of the throne. Traditionally, this has taken place within the Imperial Palace of Grantour, which is a ceremonial house in the center of the city that acts as a focal point of the whole empire during the ritual.   The incoming leader walks down the central aisle of the Imperial Palace towards a large throne beneath which the seal of the Ossalimar House sits. It is a core tenet that the new ruler is sat upon the throne during the course of a religious ceremony led by one of the High Clerics of Red Storm. During this ceremony, many things have occurred from religious chants to joyous songs.   In the most recent ceremony, there were various chants and songs to celebrate the much older King Leivan Ossalimar. He chose to have a set of arcane displays showing the history of the Empire and the great sacrafices of his family over the many years. After these events, Leivan requested a bard compose a melody telling of the power of the Empire, which has become a national musical piece in the years since.   The final part of the ceremony sees the new leader crowned with the Ossali Crown, a commemorative reconstruction of the original crown that was placed upon the head of Raynar Ossalimar upon the foundation of the Empire. This crown is an official symbol and as such a version of it has laid to rest with all previous monarchs.

History

The first Imperial Coronation occurred in 411 AR, and was a much more simple affair than what would come. It declared the province of King Raynar Ossalimar and declared the Ossalimar family as the rulers of the Empire. This ceremony was attended mostly by those who worked as the rebellious forces against the Bornassi Empire and was where several of the core traditions of the Coronation were defined. It was here that a High Cleric of Red Storm was the officiate and the first Ossali Crown was placed upon a rulers head.   The second coronation took place in 446 AR and was a much more torrid affair, especially because of the succession crisis that was brought forth by Teyvanis Ossalimar, the younger brother of Raynar. He claimed that he by birthright could claim the throne as being the oldest male of the family. His stronger forces seemed to claim the throne. However he was more lavish than his brother before him and used the Imperial Palace to create a more demonstrative Coronation than the first. It was here that the Imperial Palace became the home of the Coronation.   In 468 AR, while the third Imperial Coronation repeated some of the more extravagant elements of the second Coronation, the incoming Queen Melendra Ossalimar wanted to hark back to her father's Coronation. In this way, the leaders of many noble houses were invited to line the Imperial Palace, a way to recognize their hold within the Empire. Additionally, Melendra asked for one of the court musicians to produce a melody to celebrate the history of the Empire. In this way, the link between music and the Coronation was set. The tune composed is still used as a memorial for soldiers who die in active duty.
The fourth Coronation was a much simpler affair, taking on a time of solace for Tymion Ossalimar, the older brother of Queen Velya Ossalimar, who had gone missing a few months prior to what was supposed to be his Coronation. For her Coronation in 495 AR, Velya asked that the ceremony, while still occurring within the Imperial Palace would be a more quiet affair, with a reminder of her family underneath the simple seat that had been used over the past 80 years. As a result, a throne was crafted bearing the Falcon and Bear that resembled the Ossalimarian crest. Beneath the throne was carved a sigil of the Ossalimar family which created a beautiful installation within the Imperial Palace that would be expanded on over the many years to come.   The fifth Coronation in 524 AR was very similar to the third and fourth. Possessing the sanctity of the Ossalimarian family whilst bringing in more nobility from around the Empire. The incoming Queen Evelyn Ossalimar was by far the most religious of the leaders, and as a result, wanted to add some more religious elements into the Coronation. She wanted three sacred chants and hymns added from three of the approved deities. A hymn of loyalty from the clerics of Red Storm, a chant of rest from the texts of the Mistress of Death, and a hymn of new beginnings from the alleged words of Goldhammer.   For the second time, the sixth Coronation was for an Emperor rather than a Monarch. In 545 AR, Hallister Ossalimar used his Coronation as a show of Imperial force. To do so, he included more religious elements linking his position as Emperor, the chief of armies and commanders. As a result, more chants and hymns related to Red Storm were added to this Coronation, alienating many of those from the Daunka Shore, who were already growing with concern over the religious restrictions of the realm.

In the height of the Religious Rebellion, Queen Ashlan Ossalimar was to be coronated. By 582 AR, it had become clear that the Rebellion was starting to discuss separating from the Empire. Rather than use her Coronation as a show of force, Ashlan Ossalimar requested her Coronation, the seventh, return back to the simplicity of her great great grandfather, choosing to have the ceremony take place with a simple crowning ceremony with simple ceremonial and traditional elements. This was a symbol of her democratic prowess for which she would become known. Choosing the Empire over her own grandeur.   For the eighth Coronation in 613 AR, the ninth Coronation in 668 AR, and the tenth and most recent Coronation in 704 AR, many of the now traditional elements were included with an incorporation of religious and nationalistic elements from previous rulers, as well as the several core components of the tradition. Each of the three rulers were placed upon the Imperial Throne and crowned with their version for the Ossali Crown. The only major change was that each was required to take an oath to protect the Empire and its interests. Something added by King Teyvon Ossalimar in the eighth Coronation, as a way to bind each of the monarchs to the will of the nation. King Tevon Ossalimar II and King Leivan Ossalimar both added unique elements, but these were more in aesthetics than mechanics, changing decorations and musical accompaniment.

I love that you went through each coronation, and showed why some were more simple than others. Interesting secrets too.
