Chittering Munra

The Chittering Munra are an elemental beast from the Tokevis Region of Ossalimar .

Description

The Munra are a strange form of creature, they in some forms resemble a collection of matted and natural fur that hides almost the entirity of their form. It is when you look deeper that they are in fact creatures with skin that is deep black like obsidian. Their eyes gleaming in a shine of colour that pierces through the darkness of their skin. Yet, none of that overtook the great noise that the streams from the creature's mouth. It at first seemed to be a chattering noise, that is when I noted that these creatures were shivering almost as if they were permanently cold. That sent a chill shivering down my spine.
— Gnorr of the Ryndire Circle
Standing at around 3 feet tall, Munra all have a thick fur that is often perceived to be the primary part of their body. This is however, just a natural coat for the creatures to were grown in an attempt to warm the creature from its naturally cold location. These furs can be different shades of grey, blue, brown, and black, the colour seems to be intrinsically linked to the environment that is around them. Depite the thick fur coats that line their forms, the Munra seem to constantly make a noise that sounds like the chattering of teeth from a cold humanoid. This noise seems to be able to rattle those that the Chittering Munra (named after this chittering noise), wish to keep at bay.   The skin of a Mundra at first seems to be pigmented a deep black, similar to that of the void. However, on closer inspection it seems to be more than that, its form seems to slightly shift between a charcoal gray and a deep black in an evershifting pattern of spirals that are deeply embedded within the Munra's skin. There have been reports through the years of Munra that are able to cast spells at which point these spirals have glowed upon the casting of the spell   The most piercing element of the Munra's physical form is their eyes, they are a gap of colour in the void of the Munra's skin. They strangely can be any colour of the rainbow, sometimes they are blue, green, or brown like that of many humanoids, but other times they are a deep crimson, others they are a vibrant lavender. The colour usually associates with a significant power that the creatures possess, in the case of deep crimson eyes this could refer to the ability to cast a spell creating fire, or in the case of lavendar, the ability to portent the future.   Many Munra are defensive at first, using their fur to blend into their environment or burrowing into the ground to attempt to hide from any possible predators. When in their mess, or collective of Munra, they are often more aggressive choosing to attack rather than hide from possible predators. When they do so, the youngest, oldest, and weakest are protected by those Munra which have specialized abilities.

History

Discovery

The first Chittering Munra was discovered in 619 AR by an adventurer known as Gnorr of the Ryndire Circle. Gnorr first discovered a mess of Munra in the Tokevis Region of Ossalimar, particularly while exploring futher out from the Ossaman Tribes. The first mess discovered was a collceton of different coloured Chittering Munra. Gnorr described the experience as:
A feast for the eyes, their furs were exploding with colour, let along their eyes. In the dark of night the colours seemed to glow as bright as the lights of a city, with the beauty of a maiden in a tavern.
— Gnorr of the Ryndire Circle

Migration

As a result of magical interference and the leyline spirits, a mess of Chittering Mundra were transported from the arctic of Tokevis to the Jungles of Kyradon and the mountains that cover a significant portion of Vilura. Such a drastic difference in temperature and environemnt led to the implementation of different magical abilites and further elemental abilities to the Chittering Munra.   However, these messes each seemed to produce offspring that were called to various points along the leylines of the world. It is unclear as to whether the Munra are linked to the leylines or if they can travel along them. As a migratory species their current goals seem unclear but there are mess of Munra all along Vilura, northern Ossalimar, and Kyradon's dense jungles.

I find them a little frightening, but I also kind of like them? Probably not a creature I would like the meet in real life.
