Dhiag (dʲaiag)

The Dhiag

The dhiag are the descendants of the primordial sea goddess, Eiocha. They control the skies, seas, and very ground of the north, and keep behind their impenetrable kingdom hidden in mist. When one does venture out, however, it is a spectacle to behold. They are by far the most magically gifted land dwellers of the Tirish isles. Their most powerful members have been known to create life itself and mold it in their image. As some of the most ancient of the Tiruil's denizens, the dhiag are responsible for much of Tiruil's history. They created the giormha and split into what would later become the sidhe. They fought many wars to protect the island which shaped much of its very landscape.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dhiags come in many shapes and sizes, but the majority of them are giormha (human) in appearance. They have the ability to alter their anatomy at will, and transform into beastly creatures. Some are born with extra limbs or wings or features resembling natural materials like stone or wood.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dhiags reproduce sexually, though some of their kind have been known to create other beings.

Growth Rate & Stages

They grow slower than other creatures do, reaching maturity around age 150. They have been known to live for thousands of years.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They too are arranged in tribes, but these tribes, known as pantheons, are worshipped by the giormha that they have created.

Facial characteristics

Their facial features are usually sharp and striking. Their hair ranges from black to blond to fiery red, and their eyes are almost always shining gold. Sometimes they have horns or other animal features such as pointed ears or fangs. Antlers are not uncommon either.

Dhiag

Shimmering leaves rain down upon a village embedded in the roots of a gargantuan oak. A wisp of mist gives away motion as a young woman touches down before the tree, and folds her wings behind her. A velvet train follows her as she gracefully steps up the winding pathways carved up the tree's base.

She can feel the eyes of the peasantry glued to her glistening form. They regard her eagle wings and sharpened claws as holy raiment, to touch and be healed of their troubles. Her guards shew them away, but she allows them to join her at a distance. She is gracious, after all, for what goddess would she be if she was not?

As she reaches a small hollow, she ducks under to find a simple shrine. It was not inlaid in gold like her own or surrounded with bountiful shares of wheat like her father's. Instead, the little cairn of stones was surrounded by bowls of white berries. A symbol of remembrance that they were not the first to be born on Tiruil.
