Wayne Mountain

Waynes Mountain is a prime example of Nature's architecture and the mighty Bewilderbeast's ingenuity. The mountain is comprised solely of hexagon and polygon basaltic formations. These formations are the ancient refinements of a pyroclastic eruption where a basin of lava was able to cool down slowly, forming the iconic rock pillars. Because the mountain sits in a volcanic region, the area is still geologically active, resulting in a great number of hot springs. The thermal activity paired with the ice roof creates an unusually warm climate compared to the surrounding area. It also have ice spikes all over it.    Inside the ice-roofed caldera exists many plant species, from the green lichen that cling to the basaltic rock, to the ferns that have established a foothold in the relatively flat plateaus, rocks, steps, and cliffs. These plant species are fed by the mineral-rich water from the hot springs and thrive because of the warm, moist climate within the mountain. Other features of the mountain include cliffs, caves, waterfalls and a large pool of seawater in the center that the Bewilderbeast lives in. In one of the caverns, Valka has created a home for herself.

A mix of tundra and ice cave systems, partially self-contained due to isolation.

Dragons serve as both apex predators and ecosystem engineers: 1. Their fire melts ice, creating new water channels.  2. Their waste and remains enrich the sparse soil. 3. The Alpha’s ice breath reshapes the environment, creating habitats for nesting or shelter. 4. Valka’s role is like that of a caretaker or biologist, ensuring dragons remain healthy and that balance is maintained without overhunting

Ice and Thermal Contradictions: The mountain combines volcanic and glacial elements. The Bewilderbeast ice-breath freezes entire lava flows and sea water around the island, creating huge frozen structures. The temperature fluctuates dramatically between volcanic warmth underground and sub-zero conditions on the surface.   Constant Blizzard Conditions: Persistent snowstorms and icy winds swirl around mountain. Visibility is low; the sanctuary is concealed by the storms.   Cryogenic Ice Structures: Massive spires, domes, and walls of dragon-made ice. The entire habitat is shaped by dragon ice, not natural glaciation. The ice even forms bridges, shelters, and barriers.   Ice Reflection & Refraction Fields: Optical phenomena like shimmering lights, auroras, and reflections within the ice cavern walls. Sunlight or dragonfire refracting through thick, uneven ice. Creates an ethereal atmosphere almost bioluminescent in appearance.   Steam and Mist Formations: Steam vents and fog rising from volcanic fissures beneath the ice. Subterranean heat from the volcano meets surface ice. Dense fog and mist veil the sanctuary, further hiding it.   Aurora Interaction: Visible aurora borealis effects amplified by the reflective ice dome.    Ice Collapse and Regrowth Cycles: Periodic destruction and reconstruction of ice formations. Dragon battles, Bewilderbeast activity, or heat from the volcano. Constantly shifting landscape.

Wayne Mountain's climate is unknown, but it seems humid there. Note that there are many places in the caverns that have ice in them; it may be cold on the outside but warm on the inside.

Flora: Mosses, lichens, and hardy alpine plants cling to the inner rock faces and geothermal areas. Some bioluminescent fungi or moss may exist inside ice caves, sustained by heat and dragon respiration. Valka cultivates small patches of vegetation for healing or food, aided by the warmth from dragon nests.   Fauna: Dragons, along with few mammals or birds. Marine life exists nearby in the cold northern waters. Fish, seals, and sea birds that serve as food for dragons. Some scavengers exist, feeding on leftovers from dragon hunts.
