Neopunks
— Thinks that's enough colors on this side? — Hone, there's never enough colors, the world is bleak and sad, we try to brighten it even knowing our efforts will be covered in a week or so. And yet we keep on graffin'. — No, but seriously? — Yeah, you can leave this poor wall alone before it crumbles under the paint.
Neopunks are idealists, young for the most part, trying to bring back beauty in a dying world, one wall at a time. They fight the systemic resignation and fatalism that has taken hold of the people unable to ascend to the skies, by bringing them hopes, songs and street art.
Influences
Neopunk takes its inspirational roots in the musical genres like reggae, pop, and rap. But more than singers, neopunks are also performers, their dances evolved from hip-hop, and street artists, letting their imagination run free. They don't bind themselves to heavy messages or parts of a wall, they paint it all in large patches of bright, very saturated colors and pop art style.
They do little records of their productions, their art being by essence ephemeral. If they may paint underground, filling the grim hallways with flashy and kitsch imagery, their favourite canvas are the numerous skyscrapers littering the city, with their big exposed walls. Due to the air saturated with thin particles and pollution, their immense illustrations wither in the span of a few days, quickly covered in grey and fading tones.
"Since there's no future, there's no reason to build something for it, Rather, we live in the present, delivering our art to the people living with us. When the last neopunk paints their last piece, we will cease to exist and it will be just as if we have never been there."
"It's also a plea to the future, in a way. Sure, our art is anchored in the present, but we've been at it for what, five years and counting? We're not going anywhere, and as long as we persist, the present and life persist with us."
