Kassandria's Journal of Accurate Future Histories
a myth or fairytale about a prophecy, oracle, fortune-telling or other revelation
In the city of Llino on the street of dreams is the white gates to the guild of mages. Once past those one must cross the entry grounds and enter into the grand foyer where wizards, sages, witches, and apprentices of all types, races, and nationalities mingle and chat as they move about their daily tasks. To the left is a wide hall that winds around the outer wall of the guild's block-sized building. At the end of the corridor is an ancient pair of iron-bound oak doors with the words "Knowledge Begins With History." This is the entrance to the four-story guild library.
The Mage's guild collects and studies prophecies and legends from around the world. An entire quarter of the second floor is dedicated to the public books and scrolls on these topics. But, if you are a lucky individual you can gain admission to the third floors sealed reading vault. In this vault are tomes and papers from the secret archives of nations, guilds, and wizards collected and stored since before Niya-Yur was created.
It is here, in a forgettable little leather journal that the prophecies of Kassandria Vindalish Yalthum the common-looking fourth daughter of Yindrith the Third of Yalthum, 59th King of Yalthum. Kassandria lived a thousand years ago and this small book is actually a diary of her dreams. What makes the book so important to need storage in one of the most secure locations in the world is that every single dream has come to pass with 100% accuracy.
Legends of this book have spread across the world, for who could keep such an artifact secret? The Mages' Guild claims that these legends are but fanciful tales of a poor unfortunate girl who in her melancholy wrote fanciful ideas in a book and then ended it with a foretelling of her own suicide. Servants found the book when they were cleaning her room and gave it to her brother Brandriath Gallin Yalthum, 60th King of Yalthum who was at that time the heir to the throne. Brandiath after reading the book called in the kingdom's mages from the guild and showed it to them.
Brandiath kept the book and is said to have referenced it throughout his long rule of Yalthum. Upon his death, the book was forgotten for a time, but it turned up two hundred years later when an advisor to the Queen found it and used it to correctly save the country from a major disaster. That even brought the book back into the public eye and the Mages' Guild then took the original after a copy was made for the queen.
Many years later the queen and her copy of the book were buried at her instructions.
Since then the guild has occasionally stopped significant incidents from happening in Yalthum, Aelargo, and Duianna. Although they claim to have been acting on information obtained rumors persist they succeed only because of warnings in this mysterious book.
