Personal history
Samira Abbasi was born on December 9th, 1981, to Rayan Abbasi and Sina Abbasi. Her father is a descendant of the legendary Nishari general Abbas, through both the Abbasi and Shaheedi lines. Samira's full name is actually Samira Shaheedi Abbasi, although she shortened it just to Samira Abbasi for the purposes of international cricket. Originally, her family is of Punjabi Muslim descent, but due to her great-grandfather moving to Thattonagar, her family speaks mostly Sindhi, although her father is still fluent in Punjabi. Samira first became interested in Cricket in 1989, when she watched a match between the Women's ODI sides of Nisha and Australia. She saw herself in the players, and tried to make it as a cricketer from then on. After graduating secondary school in 1999, Samira went on to attend Thattonagar University which was, coincidentally, a 20 minute walk away from her house. During her time at University, she continued to play cricket and was drafted into the provincial side in 2001, during her Junior Year of University. Despite this, she managed cricket and school, and still graduated. Additionally, while playing for Hindustan, she met Srisha Kansra, who was like a batting mentor to her. To this day, Abbasi calls Kansra "Aadi", which is Sindhi for sister. In January of 2006, a little less than 4.5 years of Provincial Cricket paid off, as she was drafted into the first Nishari T20I side, against England. From then on, her career was cemented. In 2015, Abbasi retired from T20Is, while Tests and ODIs followed in 2018, ending her 12-year career.
