Personal history
Hira Kaur was born on July 20th, 1988 to Dharam Singh and Yasmeen Kaur in Sikhipur, Punjab. Growing up in the same neighborhood as fellow cricketer Palak Kaur Bhalla, the two of them, as well as other kids in the neighborhood, would often play games together. The most common of these games, like in other cities, was Cricket. Kaur would often enjoy batting, but would pick up bowling duties one day, when her team didn't have enough players. Her leadership skills were shown in the beginning, as she would often be chosen as the captain of whichever side she was on that day, causing Palak Kaur Bhalla to refer to Hira as her "very first captain". In secondary school, Kaur continued to play cricket, flourishing in the middle order all-rounder role. In 2006, at the age of 18 and fresh out of secondary school, Hira would be brought up to the Punjab state side, after a series of top notch performances at the secondary and club level. 3 years later in December of 2009, Kaur would receive a national call-up, playing in an ODI series against the West Indies, going on the score 24* runs and taking a solitary wicket. For the next 3 years, Kaur often had to fight for a place in the squad until 2014, when she would replace Sana Kazmi is the playing XI. In 2016, she was named the Vice Captain in all 3 formats, and would become the Captain just a year later. In 2019, Kaur became pregnant with her first and only child, leading her to leave international cricket for about 7 months, with Priya IV Sur, who had just had her own child, taking over in all 3 formats. After coming back, she would formally relinquish the T20I captaincy to Priya, later giving her the captaincy in the other formats 2 years later. Today, she is a pillar of the national team, even being player of the series in the recently concluded Women's T20I World Cup.
