Thokaides Theatre

No matter how one is born we all die the same. The high, the low, regardless of one's fame. As the dictator was about to strike he would prove that he is alik.
— part of the Dictator's War play
This theatre is the place to be for the latest plays altough older ones do make a return from time to time. As it is located in the center of the most cultural district it has no lack of aspiring playwrights. Many however never get the chance to either act or show their play here.   Although the building itself was first built during an earlier era, the current building in its current state is actually newer. This was due to a fire destroying most of the building leaving only small parts of the theatre with the original stonework.

Building

Outside

From the outside the building currently follows the newer Eranasian architecture style like many of the newer buildings in the city. The groundfloor of the building has both marble and limestone plating while the upper floors are plastered in bright blue and white.

Inside

The inside of the building is quite a sight to behold. The large income hall has white and green marble floors and is filled with richly decorated columns.   To stay true to the original character of the city many of the murals of older buildings were replicated here. The original ones of the theatre were lost during the fire but new version of these were added to the upper floors. Most of these murals depict sealife such as dolphins and swordfish but others are there are also murals depicting mythological events.

Origin

Before the Thokaides theatre was built Golandon used an older style theatre on the side of the Psigest hill. When this open air theatre was mostly destroyed by a landslide a plan was made to build a new theatre.   In 657 AE the Thokaides theatre finished constructed. During this time it was one of the most prominent uses of the Terian architectural style. It featured dark and light blue glaze bricks that placed in wave patterns along the walls of the theatre.

Fire

Sadly the Thokaides Theatre mostly burned down during a large fire in the Ganitas district in 1063 AE. As the general architecture of the area had changed it was chosen to rebuild the theatre in a new style.   At the time this was met wiht some backlash as the building had long been a landmark of the previous era. Eventually the government pushed through nonetheless and the Thokaides Theatre was given its current form.

Plays

Soundwave by Kefkejaco with Heroforge

Ever since its construction the Thokaides Theatre has been the place to be for cultural entertainment. While visiting here one can catch up on the latest plays but from time to time some classics are performed as well.

The Dictator's war

The Dictator's War is the play of the moment. It was written by the legendary playwright Elias Sevaski "Soundwave" and tells the story of his experience during the last Human-Elven war. Elias saw it as his obligation to tell the story of the war as a tribute to the families and friends that lost their lives during the war.   The opera that followed is now being hailed as the best one ever created in Terios and is always quickly sold out. Given its popularity it is played several times a week. But not only the story is captivating. Visitors are treated to spectacles involving illusion, fire and air magic. People are almost blasted of their seats when Elias uses his full arsenal of effects.

The Beauty and the Golem

Right before the rise of the Dictator's War opera The Beauty and the Golem was the popular play. It tells the love story of a prince who was cursed because of his hubris against the gods. As punishment his soul was placed inside a golem and only by finding true love could he return to his real body.   For many years he remains in his lone castle until a beautiful woman arrives looking for a way to save her village. As the golem helps defeat a goblin horde he and the girl fall madly in love lifting the curse.

It's a shame that the original building got burnt down, but I am glad it got rebuilt. I love the detail about the sealife murals. It's nice you've included some discussion of the plays that can be put on there too - The Dictator's War sounds like you would have to be in the right mood for it.

Finally was able to put the arcitecture styles from the city to use :p The play is despite the heavy theme quite popular but that is also partially because of the fact that the Humans won so it has somewhat of a happy ending :)
