King Erenas
There has never been a king who has done more for us regular people than King Erenas. He deserves the celebration we hold every year in his name a hundred times over.
For the people of Terios and especially Golandon there never been a more loved ruler than King Erenas. He created a first form of democracy in Terios and paved the way for a more equal treatment of its citizens.
Personal Life
Early Life
The early life of King Eranas before ascending to the throne is not well known. This is of course partially because he was quite far down the line of succession. But as his uncle was the king of Terios during his youth he did grow up in well off circumstances. His father was at that time the count of Varos, the most western area of Terios.
Before coronation
In 921 AE this situation would change forever. Erenas' uncle had become more tyrannical which eventually led to many of the powerful people of Terios, including his father, to start opposing his rule. A civil war broke out between those who supported his father and the loyalists of his uncle.
Eranas only participated in a few large battles during this civil war. This would end up saving him as he was in Monesdia during the battle near Epikus. Sadly both his father and older brother perished during this battle which made him the new leader of the faction at the age of 20.
Relationships
King Eranas was married to queen Elirika who was a lesser noble woman from Varena. This was of course partially because they were already betrothed many years before Eranas would even be the viable successor of the Terian throne.
Together they had 5 children of which 3 made it into adulthood. His eldest son, Valion, would become his successor after his death.
Personality
Almost all records of King Erenas describe him as a kind hearted and jovial person which was in stark contrast to his uncle. He was known to be a bit of a gluton which is why he liked to hold many banquets. Luckily for the citizens of Golandon he did not want to make this elite events but rather celebrations during which the common people could sit at the table as well. There are several mentions of the king's aides going into the city and randomly inviting families to the palace.

Early rule
After becoming the faction leader it was not really clear if the civil war would still continue. Although his father's army had won the battle of Epikus, the death of both his father and his older brother made the situation quite difficult. Despite the devestating news Erenas was quick to take command over the remaining troops and marched to the capital.
The siege of the capital was going into its second month when the gates suddenly opened. When the survivors of the battle of Epikus returned to his uncle, king Toras, the commander was executed for his failure. This already sowed some discord among the military leaders. When the siege was starting to look like a lost cause some officers took matters into their own hands and assasinated king Toras. With the capital surrendering, Erenas officialy became king of Terios.
Reforms
King Erenas is of course mostly known for the many reforms he introduced to Terios. After many years of tyranny under the rule of his uncle, Erenas decided that a more power should be given to the people. Only a year after his coronation he introduced the Chiterae, representatives of each state that would form the new government which would keep the royals accountable. Although the king was still able to make changes to the law or determine diplomatic relationships, everything had to be put to a vote and only passed with a majority in the government.
At first only Golandians were able to be nominated as Chiterae. Only citizens that were part of the city's directly held lands before the creation of the kingdom are called Golandians. Humanoids who moved in after the inclusion of other cities are called Alerians and typically receive less benefits than the true Golandians.
After several years of rule, however, King Erenas decided to correct this historical division. The new laws he created also ensured that Alerians and Golandians were treated by the same justice system and that freedom of speech could be used without any reprecussions. Alerians were even able to become Chiterae but due to the amount of wealth needed for an election campaign this was still something only the rich could afford.
Death and Influence
When King Erenas died in 985 AE his son Valion took the throne. He wanted to keep the values of his father in high regard and even decided to commemorate him. The large King Eranas Park was constructed in his honour. To this day it is still the largest park in the city and at its center a large statue of King Erenas was erected. Today it is the ideal location for students from the nearby Keepers University and Library to spend their free hours.
Thanks to his decree to make Alerians and Golandians more equal there was a large influx of new inhabitants. These brought new ideas and culture with them which eventually led to a new architecture style in the Osthoria and Avaritas districts of the capital. This new style cleary showed Pavan and Dwarven influences and would lader become known as the Eranasian architectural style. Today this is still the most common style used for new buildings.

Oh, I love him. He seems like he was such a good king. Probably the contrast to his uncle helped a lot! XD
