Seeing a common enemy and heeding the advice of his christian wife, Hulagu Khan sends messengers to the kings of the west, offering alliances. The Templars, waging a third crusade intercept them and Illuminati agents are sent in. They've gotten smart by this time. They've decouple their religion from their goal of separating mages from the general populace. Christ's mission shouldn't fail, just because his name is attached to it.
