Dragonborn

Born of dragons, as their name proclaims, the dragonborn walk proudly through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension.   True to the name, Dragonborn resemble "small" dragons standing erect in humanoid form, with similar draconic snouts, tails, and scales; though they lack wings. Their small, fine scales are colored from the race of dragons that they originate from, whether that be a bright silver, a rusty copper, or a brilliant red. They are often tall and strongly built, usually standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.   Like their distant orignators, they also possess the ability to breathe out elemental and natural energies in the form of powerful and dangerous breaths. Most Dragonborn use this primarily to light fires or other useful day to day tasks, but a Dragonborn warrior who has honed their breath abilities can be an especially dangerous foe in battle.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Dragonborn require male and female sexed members to reproduce, and do so by laying clutches of eggs that hatch 5 or so months after being laid.    Biologically male and female members of the species are often hard to discern from one another, with the most prominent sex characteristics being held "below the belt" and invisible to most people.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

In Kalin

Dragonborn were once the protectors and servants of the Dragon races throughout the continent. After the Dragon War in the First Age the Tyrant Abberon forced the dragons to abandon the Dragonborn as their servants, which the defeated Dragons complied with.   While it is speculated Abberon may have had darker plans for the Dragonborn in the long term, those plans were halted by his assassination.   Following their separation from their masters the Dragonborn were forced to fend for themselves. Many could not stand being disconnected from the Dragons and went on doomed paths such as aimless mercenaries or suicidal berserkers. Those that stayed together began to form into clans, and over the ages these clans found their way back to Draconfall, the region where the Dragons made their last stand. These clans have banded together if threatened from the outside but otherwise keep to themselves, and wander the region following good hunting and what their spiritualist religion calls for. The Dragonborn of Draconfall were incorporated into the Federated Union of Eastern Kalin in the Third Age and Draconfall became the state of Dracon, with its capital being Norixious. While this has changed Dragonborn life somewhat, for the most part the Clan structure remains intact, if subservient to the greater needs of the Union.   Culturally the Dragonborn of Draconfall are a Shamanistic and nomadic people who prefer to stay in their close-knit clans and families. Though individual Dragonborn will go out into the wider world to explore and adventure, and enclaves of Dragonborn exist throughout the greater Nations of Kalin.
