V
Valerie—better known simply as V—is more than a name in Night City; she’s a myth walking in flesh. Once a top-tier Arasaka counterintel agent, now a rogue Solo and Fixer, V’s transformation is one of the most infamous stories in the city’s bloody annals. She's not just a survivor—she's the only known Solo to infiltrate Arasaka Tower, fight her way to its very core, and walk out alive.
Her legend began long before the assault, but it was that final, suicidal run that sealed her place in Night City history. With the engram of Johnny Silverhand embedded in her mind and the weight of the world on her shoulders, Valerie stormed Arasaka's stronghold. She faced not only an army of the most elite corporate killers but also the walking nightmare of the city—Adam Smasher, the chrome-plated monstrosity whispered about in bars and back alleys alike. According to the rumors, Valerie didn’t just survive the encounter—she ended it. The so-called Night City Boogeyman was turned into scrap, and while no official body was found, no one's seen Smasher since.
What followed only deepened her legend. Instead of disappearing like most who challenge Arasaka, V returned to the streets. Scarred, altered, but alive. Rogue Amendiares—legendary Fixer and one of the old guard—recognized the weight of Valerie’s feat. She passed the torch, and with it the keys to the Afterlife, the bar where mercs become legends or drink themselves into oblivion. Now, Valerie runs the place, but not just as a bartender or business owner. She works the city from both sides—as a Fixer, connecting mercs to jobs, and as a Solo, still taking contracts that most wouldn't touch.
With Rogue still working at her side in the shadows—advising, watching, helping shape the next generation of mercs—Valerie has become something far more than a killer or a survivor. She's a symbol. A woman who took everything Night City could throw at her—corporate betrayal, death, digital ghosts, cyberpsychos, and the weight of another man's war—and came out stronger.
To the new mercs, she’s a beacon. To the corps, a threat. And to the city itself? A living reminder that even in Night City, where dreams are currency and death comes cheap—some legends refuse to die.

Personal history
V, a native of Charter Hill in Night City, was born into a corporate family. They later joined the Arasaka Corporation, receiving training in intelligence network creation, crisis impact analysis, and corporate asset defense during armed conflicts. During their tenure, V uncovered a Petrochem spy within Arasaka's sales department. While officially reported as an accidental death, this incident marked V's first kill, leading to a promotion and a promise of reduced field assignments. Under the mentorship of Arthur Jenkins, V rose to become a high-ranking counterintelligence operative within Arasaka Tower.
Over two years, V completed multiple defensive and offensive operations. Their final assignment involved surveilling an Arasaka facility in Watson, culminating in the interception of a suspected Militech-affiliated spy from Baskin Undercover. This mission showcased V's autonomy and commitment, though it also highlighted increasing stress levels.
In 2077, following unauthorized assassinations of European Space Council representatives by Jenkins, V was instructed to eliminate Jenkins' superior, Susan Abernathy. During a meeting at Lizzie's Bar with their contact, Jackie Welles, V was apprehended by Arasaka agents, stripped of corporate status, and had their implants deactivated. Jackie intervened, preventing V's detainment, and offered them shelter.
Subsequently, V departed Night City, joining the Backers nomad family in California. After two years, the Backers merged with Snake Nation, prompting V's return to Night City. They resumed mercenary work alongside Jackie, eventually securing their own apartment in Megabuilding H10.
In late April 2077, V and Jackie were contracted by fixer Dexter DeShawn, via Evelyn Parker, to infiltrate Konpeki Plaza and steal a Relic from Yorinobu Arasaka. Assisted by netrunner T-Bug, they successfully retrieved the Relic. However, during their escape, they witnessed Yorinobu murder his father, Saburo Arasaka. T-Bug was killed remotely by Arasaka's netrunners. Jackie sustained fatal injuries, and to preserve the Relic, he slotted it into his neural interface. He succumbed to his wounds en route to the No-Tell Motel, entrusting the Relic to V.

At the motel, DeShawn shot V in the head and disposed of their body in a landfill. The Relic, however, activated, resurrecting V. Saburo's former bodyguard, Goro Takemura, retrieved V and brought them to Viktor Vektor's clinic. There, V learned that the Relic housed Johnny Silverhand's engram, which was overwriting their consciousness, leaving them with limited time to live.
Seeking solutions, V investigated leads involving Evelyn Parker and Anders Hellman, the Relic's creator. With Judy Álvarez's help, V discovered Evelyn had been hired by the Voodoo Boys to obtain the Relic for accessing Alt Cunningham, a legendary netrunner and Johnny's former partner. Collaborating with the Voodoo Boys, V contacted Alt beyond the Blackwall, learning that extracting the engram required Arasaka's Mikoshi system.
Pursuing Hellman, V allied with Panam Palmer and the Aldecaldos to intercept his convoy. Hellman revealed that the Relic's integration was irreversible. V then contacted Takemura, who arranged a meeting with Hanako Arasaka during Saburo's memorial parade. After confronting her bodyguard, Sandayu Oda, and surviving an ambush by Adam Smasher, V escaped. Hanako later proposed a meeting at Embers, during which the Relic's degradation forced V to leave abruptly.
With Silverhand temporarily controlling their body, V was taken back to Viktor's clinic, where they learned the Relic's process was nearly complete. Facing limited options, V prepared for a final confrontation to determine their fate and that of Johnny Silverhand.
