Personal history

Sébastien Carrière – The Revolutionary Medtech

Role: Medtech

Origin: Montreal, Quebec, formerly the Corporate District

Age: Late 20s – Early 30s

Affiliation: Independent, but secretly sympathetic to the Résistance Québécoise

Cyberware: High-end neural augments, precision cyber-surgeon implants, internal toxin filters

Background

Born into wealth and privilege, Sébastien Carrière was the heir to a legacy of corporate dominance. His father, Philippe Carrière, was a high-ranking executive at Biodyne Systems, a leading medical and biotech megacorp. His mother, Claire Dumont, held a similar position at Kiroshi Canada, specializing in cybernetic optics and neural interfacing. From an early age, Sébastien was groomed for the corporate elite, receiving the finest education, cybernetic enhancements, and training in advanced medical sciences.

But beneath the polished surface of high society, his parents harbored a dangerous secret—they were key figures in the Résistance Québécoise, the underground movement fighting against the megacorp stranglehold on Quebec. While they played the roles of loyal executives, they funneled money, resources, and classified intelligence to the resistance. Sébastien, kept in the dark for most of his youth, would one day discover the truth in the most brutal way possible.

The Night of the Betrayal

At 19, while studying cybernetic medicine at the Université de Montréal, Sébastien’s life was shattered. An informant within the Résistance sold out his parents. Militech black ops raided their home, executed them on live broadcast as corporate traitors, and burned their records. Sébastien barely escaped, saved by his parents' allies—a team of netrunners and medtechs who had been working with them.

Forced into hiding, he shed his corporate identity, becoming a ghost in his own city. He burned his old SIN (System Identification Number), assumed a new name, and retreated into the underground med-clinics of Les Terres Rouges, where he rebuilt his life among Quebec’s cyber-rebels, gangsters, and mercenaries.

The Medtech of the Resistance

Over the next decade, Sébastien honed his skills as a street doctor and cybernetic surgeon, specializing in black-market cyberware and combat trauma care. He became infamous for:

  • Saving netrunners on the verge of neural meltdown.
  • Performing high-risk cyberware extractions for fugitives.
  • Modifying corpo-manufactured augments to break their tracking protocols.
  • Outwitting Militech's bounty hunters, who still seek him as "Philippe Carrière's ghost."

While he operates as a neutral fixer for mercs and edge-runners, deep down, Sébastien carries his parents’ legacy. He secretly aids the new generation of Résistance Québécoise, using his knowledge of corpo medical tech to sabotage, subvert, and save lives.

Personality & Morality

  • Cautious, but not a coward – He’s seen the worst of the corps and knows when to run, but won’t hesitate to risk his life for the right cause.
  • Pragmatic, but idealistic – He understands the underworld, but deep down, he believes Quebec still has a future free from megacorp control.
  • Loyal, but selective – He trusts few, but those he does are like family.

Gear & Cyberware

  • Prototype Cyber-Surgeon Implant: A high-end neural augment allowing near-instantaneous surgical precision, stolen from his father’s old research lab.
  • Kiroshi Mk.4 Optics: Upgraded black-market cyber-eyes capable of seeing heat signatures, X-ray scans, and real-time biometrics.
  • Reinforced Reflex Hand (Sandevistan-Linked): Allows for high-speed surgical procedures—or brutal self-defense with scalpels.
  • Neural Scrambler: A self-installed implant that disrupts corporate trackers, making him untraceable in the Net.

Campaign Hooks & Plot Threads

  • A Ghost from the Past: A former associate of his parents resurfaces, claiming they had one final, unfinished mission that only Sébastien can complete.
  • The Biodyne Conspiracy: A megacorp is developing a neural suppressant designed to control Quebec’s population—Sébastien holds the key to counteracting it.
  • The Price of Freedom: The Résistance Québécoise wants him to fully commit. But to do so, he may have to expose himself to the corporations hunting him.

Sébastien Carrière – The Medtech in Exile

"You think Night City’s bad? Try being hunted by corps who want you dead and revolutionaries who want you to die for their cause."

    Overview

    • Role: Medtech
    • Former Allegiance: Résistance Québécoise
    • Current Allegiance: Independent (Unofficially working with the Night City underworld)
    • Base of Operations: A black-market clinic in Heywood, Night City
    • Reputation: Ex-corporate prodigy turned underground cyber-doc

From Montreal to Night City: A Fugitive’s Journey

After years of fighting in the shadows of Quebec’s energy wars, Sébastien Carrière made the hardest choice of his life: to run.

The resistance had become fractured, riddled with spies and corpo-backed turncoats. His parents’ dream of a free Quebec was slipping away, and every move Sébastien made put a bigger target on his back. Militech, Biodyne Systems, and Kiroshi Canada had all labeled him a high-value rogue asset. The bounty on his head climbed high enough that even his so-called allies started looking at him differently.

So he did what only the truly desperate do—he fled to Night City.

With the right contacts and a few well-placed bribes, he boarded an unregistered transport convoy carrying illegal cyberware shipments into the NUSA. By the time he set foot in Night City, he was a dead man—at least, on paper.

    Life in Night City

Now operating under an alias, Dr. Sébastien "Seb" Carrière runs a hidden cyber-clinic in Heywood, patching up mercs, netrunners, and anyone with the eddies to pay. His clinic is nestled between a half-burned-out Kiroshi subsidiary building and a dive bar that caters to ex-corporate fugitives.

    The Clinic: "La Dernière Chance"

(“The Last Chance” – a nod to his heritage and a grim joke about his patients' survival odds.)

    • What he does: Black-market cyberware installation, trauma surgery, experimental neural augments, and removing corpo tracking devices.
    • Clientele: Mercs, cyberpunks, fixers, and corpos looking for "off-the-books" medical work.
    • Under-the-table work: Occasionally, he'll do jobs for the Aldecaldos, Tyger Claws, or rogue netrunners.

    Why Night City?

    • It’s the only place crazier than Montreal. Here, corpos don’t care about a rogue ex-medtech unless he makes waves.
    • The anonymity. As long as he keeps his head down, Militech and Biodyne won’t know he’s alive.
    • It’s the capital of opportunity—and regret. He’s not here to be a hero. He’s here to survive.

    Personality & Morality

    • Still a fighter, but no longer an idealist. Montreal’s war drained him. He won’t die for a cause again—unless it’s his own.
    • Pragmatic, but won’t tolerate corpo cruelty. He won’t pick fights with corps, but if he sees a corpo abusing people, he won’t turn a blind eye.
    • Speaks three languages fluently—French, English, and sarcasm.

Enemies & Threats in Night City

    • Militech Black Ops Teams: They still want him dead. If they find out he’s in Night City, expect extraction squads.
    • Biodyne Systems: They’re still using his parents’ research. He’s tempted to burn them to the ground.
    • Fixers Who Know Too Much: Rumors of his past have started to circulate. Some fixers might want to exploit his knowledge of Quebec’s underground.

    Possible Campaign Hooks

    • Old Ghosts: A former Quebec resistance fighter arrives in Night City, looking for Sébastien. They need him for one last job.
    • Corporate Interest: Arasaka is developing a next-gen neural implant—Biodyne Systems wants to steal it, and they want Sébastien’s expertise.
    • Cybernetic Smuggling: Someone wants an experimental augment installed, but the hardware is corpo-locked. Seb is the only one who can crack it.

    Closing Thought

Sébastien Carrière didn’t come to Night City to be a legend. He came here to disappear.

But legends have a way of finding you anyway.
