Renji Takagawa
Takagawa Renji (高川 蓮司), in Japanese order, means “Renji of the High River.” Takagawa is a name that suggests a once-proud family lineage, now weathered by time and conflict. Takagawa carries himself like a man carved from old tradition—everything about his presence is deliberate, reserved, and understated, yet unmistakably commanding.
Renji Takagawa often spends evenings at The Last Drop, sitting in a booth by the far wall with a clear line of sight to the entrance. He never orders alcohol—just green tea, prepared properly, no matter who’s working. The staff never mess it up. They know better. He sips in silence, his expression unreadable, but those who watch him long enough feel the gravity he carries. He rarely speaks. He always listens. The regular patrons may refer to him as just "Takagawa-san" or "Old Renji," though he's not especially old.
The family lore says that their ancestors tended river works for a daimyo to contain the flooding of the Arakawa River in Chichibu. Renji carries the metaphor, "Channel force; don’t be the flood." The family crest is a simple wave-and-weir mon (black on white). He keeps it engraved inside a silver card case. Renji also wears a well-worn bracelet made of jade charms. He will often run the beads through his fingers when he is deep in thought.
It is well-known throughout Watson that Renji Takagawa serves as Hombuchō to the Night City Kanzaki Oyabun.
