Julia "Forty" Dore
Julia “Forty” Dore is the fiercely independent frontwoman of the band Forty, a singer-guitarist with a voice that can cut through any dive-bar noise. Her most striking features are a four and a zero tattooed above her knees, and a single lock of hair dyed fire-engine red.
She grew up watching her father, Adam Dore — the musician once known as Adore — get chewed up and spat out by the music industry, and she swore never to let a label own her the way they owned him. She is estranged from her mother and refuses to speak of her in public. Forty has built her identity around the family she chose on stage rather than the one she lost off it.
Now, as her band’s raw, electric shows start drawing serious attention, media companies circle with offers that look a little too familiar. Still, Forty is determined to carve out her own path, even if it means turning down big money and making enemies in all the wrong places.
