Session 1: Prologue - Seeking the Spirit Fruit
General Summary
- The adventurers all share a dream where they are visited by a mysterious otherworldly figure that shows them that a mystical quondam™ tree is on the verge of awakening in the northern forests. Though having been born Drabs with no affinity of the magical martial arts of their valley, with the spirit fruit of this rare tree that could change things.
- The next day Okami Fei Silas sends a letter to his friend, Gom Dang Kang.
- Some time later, Kang receives the letter which invites him to meet at The Grinning Wolf Lodge in Okami City.
- After finishing his work in the forge with his father, Kang heads out to meet up with Silas at the tavern.
- There, they happen upon a fellow Drab named Long Sone Lei who a clumsy barmaid named Jing bumped into (Lei helped her clean up and suggested investing in wooden tableware). They also are greeted by Feng, who owns the Lodge.
- Lei has been in Okami City for a few weeks doing bookkeeping and accounts work.
- After ordering drinks, Lei beats Kang in arm wrestling, but Kang wins the best two out of three.
- Soon after, Lin Son Ping, another of the valley's Drabs, enters and orders food and drink at the bar. Kang convinces her to, begrudgingly, join them.
- Ping has come to the city to sell today's catch of fish
- The party discuss how they all shared the same dream and Silas insists they all journey together to seek it out, as he's sure it is in The Moonwood to the north.
- That night, they also overheard some rumors about a woodsman named Liang having lost his silver axe in the Moonwood after being chased by a boar.
- The party decides to head out in the morning after meeting up again in the Lodge.
- Before meeting up, Lei takes a brief detour to procure some wooden tableware from an old carpenter woman named Hsu-na to show to Jing sometime later.
- After the party has gathered, they decide to set out with only minimal supplies, such as a day's worth of rations.
- The party faces various complications while on their journey to the tree:
- With Silas’s help the party navigates a treacherous ravine.
- A large tree branch falls on the party, with only Ping noticing, but she is unable to prevent Kang from being pinned. Kang is hurt but able to escape.
- Attempting to cross the world’s largest stream, Silas leads the team across a particularly slippery fallen tree bridge, leading to the party being dumped in the freezing, rushing waters.
- When faced with a dense fog and difficult woody terrain of gnarled exposed roots, Ping leads the team through the mist to the other side.
- As a pack of wolves rush the party to run them off their territory, Silas attempts to subdue them with some jerky. However, they were disinterested and this resulted in a fight killing 4 otherwise innocent good bois when they could have just run away.
- The party then reached the quondam™ tree, at which time Ping was able to fish a cluster of spirit fruit out of its branches. This roused the tree, which attacked. Despite Ping urging the group to flee, the party decided to stand and fight. They also had to defeat its lingering spirit, its Soultrace, after that, and they barely managed to make it out alive
- Following this harrowing ordeal, and too exhausted to make the trip back, the party gathers up wood for a fire and temporary shelter with plans to stay the night in the snowy forest.
