Yuan Ti
A people, fleeing their accursed land, with snakelike afflictions from their curse. The Yuan Ti are a people with no homeland, instead they are strewn around the world.
A Yuan Ti's skin and hair sheds, leaving large dandruffs around the place. This can be particularly painful and reduce their mobility. Whenever a Yuan Ti gets close to shedding, their eyes become much cloudier. Otherwise their snake eyes are much more sensitive to light but can see well in the dark. The transformation process is particularly painful for the eyes, as their physiology changes completely.
Yuan Ti's thoughts and personalities change with the curse. Many can become more wild or animalistic than what their stature would suggest, getting behaviors not commonly observed in people. Vegetables may seem off putting to Yuan Ti. When startled some play dead, or change their posture into abnormal stances.
Yuan Ti tell stories of how their king brought the snake's curse upon his subjects and the fables they heard as kids. Many are fond of a story about a story of a girl with an ill mother who somehow meets herself and saves a bird who turns out to be her mother. Though hard to explain everyone who listens to it go on to have a cheerful day after the happy ending.
Their kingdom observed peculiar holidays only seen there. Right as the critters of the forest are about to hibernate over the winter, Yuan Ti set out to hunt for the roundest of them all. Whether its a squirell or a bear, the finder of the most rotund critter is awarded with an extra long nap. In spring, Yuan Ti go frog spotting and take home a tad pole. The tad pole is kept as a pet until it grows up and then they release it back into the wild.
A little girl, with the reddest hair you have ever seen, lived in a small village, tucked away in the hills, with her mother. She loved tending to her garden where she grew loads of flowers and without knowing any magic. She loved the small hill behind their house and used to walk to the top of it every night, to sit by a big old root and watch the sun go down.
One day, the little girl's mother cut her hand on a piece of glass that the little girl had broken. Though she washed the wound straightaway, just as the little girl had always been taught, the cut soon became infected, and by the next morning, she had a very high fever. The little girl took care of her to the best of her abilities but several days passed without any improvement in her condition.
One night the little girl cried herself to sleep, worrying about her mother, but woke up standing infront of a strange door. She walked through the door to find herself standing on top of her favorite hill. It looked just the same as it always did, except for one thing — there was someone else there, sitting on my root and sobbing quietly.
The little girl took a sharp breath and wondered: could the girl sitting on the root actually be me? Her hair glittered like a ruby in the setting sun, it was the reddest hair you have ever seen.
The Bright Blue Bird.
The little girl was feeling quite sad herself, but the girl sitting on the root seemed absolutely inconsolable. Feeling sorry for her, the little girl asked,
"Are you alright? Why are you crying?"
At this, the weeping girl lifted her face, giving the little girl another shock. It was her face staring back at her.
"I was careless... and my bird flew away,' she said. 'Oh did I love it so..."
"So that's why you're crying. I've been careless too, as it happens. I made my mother sick..."
The little girl thought for a moment, the asked,
"What kind of bird was it?"
"It was blue, bright blue. It was so very beautiful... "
"...My mother's eyes are blue as well," she sighed, "but they don't seem to sparkle like they did before she took ill."
They carried on talking for a little while, and before long they became firm friends. The girl on the root loved gardening too, and was enjoying gazing at the sunset from the crest of the hill. It seemed they they had absolutely everything in common. Eventually, the litte girl said, "Here, take this. It's a flower I grew. It's called 'warm welcome', and birds love it. Perhaps it might make your blue bird come back."
They were to make her mother feel better, she had put some at her mother's bedside and some in her hair.
"Thank you!" said the girl, smiling. "Oh my, it really does smell wonderful. Hey, would you like to come to my house?"
The little girl nodded, and off they went, down the hill together and into the girl's house. She places the flower next to the window. Before long, they heard a sound.
"peep peep peep, cheep cheep cheep."
And a blue bird flew in through the window.
"Chichi!" shouted the girl, recognizing her missing pet.
The bird had flown straight for the vase that held the flower. It seemed a little unsteady, as though one of its wings was injured, but the little girl couldn't help feeling happy that he "warm welcome" she had given the girl made her bird come back.
Waking From the Dream
All of a sudden, The reddest haired girl was in front of the strange door again. She walked through it and found herself lying in bed once more. "It was just a dream," she sighed.
Then she threw off the sheets, and went to her mother's bedroom. Much to her suprise, though, she found no mother there. That's when she heard a sound coming from the kitchen, and ran downstairs.
"Mother!" she cried.
"Good Morning!" she replied cheerily.
"You must have been wondering where I'd got to! I just felt so much better when I woke up this morning. Now then, would you like some breakfast? I'm famished!"
And her mother's blue eyes sparkled once more...

A Snake's Curse.
Long ago, all Yuan ti became the subject of a gruesome curse which caused the Yuan Ti to transform into snakelike people of varying degrees. The serpentine traits are inherited by their offsprings. Yuan Ti may have many or few serpentine traits. All of them have splotches of scaley skin, and slit pupils and tongues but some may even get snakelike faces or a snake tail as their lower body, the arms are always retained though. Some unlucky Yuan Ti got cursed to a middle point with half formed snake jaws or half between normal legs and a functioning tail.A Yuan Ti's skin and hair sheds, leaving large dandruffs around the place.
