The Great Monastery

The Great Monastery, as it is simply known, is one of the greatest of its kind on Nexus. Countless generations of monks have been trained here, in not one but countless different styles of martial arts. It is said that the Monastery was originally founded to combat a great evil, once defeated but destined to one day return to Nexus and plague the world once again. This evil returned and was subsequently defeated for the second time centuries ago, this time permanently, resulting in the monks of the Great Monastery being celebrated as heroes for some time before the public's diminishing attention was directed towards other things. With little to do now that the task from their founding was complete, the monks of the Great Monastery turned their focus inward and have largely lived peaceful, quiet lives ever since.   Though the occasional student has made their mark on the world in the years since, the Great Monastery itself has mostly stayed out of major world events during that time. The one exception was when a group of pirates, coming up from the Ashes Archipelago to the south, attempted to attack the Great Monastery. The pirates believed that the Great Monastery held hidden wealth and that the monks would be no match for their firearms. Much to their surprise, the monks were just as capable of catching and throwing bullets back at attackers as they were arrows and bolts, sending the pirates fleeing for their lives to spread the monk's reputation.
