Surgo
The sorcerer who laid the foundations for the School of Patterns and indeed the schools of sorcery themselves. A softspoken human gentleman who always had an eye for pleasure. Later in life, rich beyond belief, it was his pleasure-seeking that would be his doom at a brothel burned down by the Daughters of Alifathil, a group of Helenist purists.
He was fascinated by magic but repulsed at the thought of harming the Hekkauthra for it. Years of study led him to find alternate sources of the Earth Impel in many subtle places, most extensively in patterns made out of or in natural materials. Though he was not officially the founder of the school, he taught his ideas to several hundred students over the course of twenty years, travelling across the continent. A collection of forty or so of his followers gathered in 487 to found the School of Patterns in Cantra.
