The Doom

The 10 year long conquest by the now disbanded The Order of the Holy Sword to destroy all sources of arcane magic in what is known as the Doom.

The Order of the Holy Sword was a fringe cult founded in the early 5000s, but was slowly growing. They saw all arcane magic as a perversion of the gift of the divines that was magic, and sought to destroy it. Many people were almost tricked into their ranks, believing them to want to hunt down dangerous creatures; mad wizards, owlbears and manticores, and indeed, dragons. In the year 7990 the Order of the Holy Sword began a full on conquest, demanding donations, some even stealing it, to gain weaponry capable of taking on magic. Many less zealtous priests and paladins joined this 'crusade' painted as a purge of the dangerous creatures of the world. While they gained the support of many warriors, members of the inner circle started killing their own politcal targets, the upper echelons beleiving truly in it, but other savvier members painted it on war. They failed to destroy magical artifacts, sorcers and wizards as in the year 7996 the world caught on and stopped them, but all the dragons were killed, even the metallic ones, in addition to the vast vast majority of creatures like owlbears and chimeras. It is seen as an unmistakeable tragedy, and many sorceres still hold grudges against the religious orders of the world.
