The Muses, Goddesses of Artistic Skill
The Muses are nonuplet daughters of Mnemosyne. Each of the Muses is the absolute pinnacle of a particular form of art or performance. Skill, precision, and expertise in art are the things the Muses most concerned with. Each of the nine Muses is an innovator in her preferred field, something that is projected onto their clerics. Priests of the Muses are all accomplished artists or performers; and have close connections with priests of Mnemosyne, who create records for works such as music, historical research, or plays.
They have among the most commonly seen avatars among the gods. The sisters frequently appear before the most skilled and driven artists of their craft, both male and female, to take as lovers. Such a union gives birth to divine inspiration for the mortal involved, rather than the normal results of such activities.
The Nine Sisters are:
Calliope, Muse of Heroic Tales, whose prose inspires mortals to rise above their physical limits.
Clio, Muse of History, who single-mindedly researches the lost histories of the time when Cleito was the only regular deity.
Erato, Muse of Romantic Literature, whose poetry can move the coldest heart to tears of emotion.
Euterpe, Muse of Musical Theory, inventor of instruments, as well as the common system of writing music.
Melpomene, Muse of Tragedy, a master of eliciting feelings of cathartic grief in her work.
Polyhymnia, Muse of Sacred Writing, who composed the texts used by clerics to teach the will of the gods.
Terpsichore, Muse of Dance, who famously appears to those who invent new, exciting forms of dance.
Thalia, Muse of Comedy, capable of making even the sternest of gods laugh uproariously.
Urania, Muse of Painting, while not responsible for creating the paints themselves, she is the most skilled there is at applying them to capture the image in one's mind.
