Ogre

Standing up to twelve feet tall, Ogres are stronger than Centaurs, able to challenge a Jotunn in a wrestling match, and smart enough to understand that they aren't fast enough to out-maneuver smaller enemies. Most Ogres are mountains of muscle and rage, but a rare few are born able to use magic to control a single element. Such Ogre Mages have skin that is the colour of the element they wield rather than the standard light-tan tone they have; blue for water, red for fire, white for air, and brown for earth.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Ogres have smaller heads than their body mass would indicate, with pointed ears that stick out from the sides of their head. They only have three fingers on their hands, plus a thumb. Ogre Mages sometimes have an extra finger on their dominant hand, which is believed to be an indicator or greater magical might.

Genetics and Reproduction

Ogre women will be pregnant for up to a full year, and always give birth to twins. Despite always being twins, it is very rare for them to be identical.

Growth Rate & Stages

Ogres grow for a very long time. They are human-sized within five years of birth, and considered adults in their tribe around the end of their first decade. They will continue to grow, however, until they die of old age, something that is very uncommon for them due to their violent nature. A truly old Ogre could be up to 20 feet tall.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Ogres prefer meat, and it is a mainstay of their diet, but they are also intelligent enough to grow simple crops as well as make wine.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Ogres have a tribal society that varies in its complexity from a single chief making all decisions to an elected council depending on the tribe and region. One unifying factor is that Ogre society is patriarchal.

Average Intelligence

Smart enough to plant vegetables and harvest them, but Ogres still do not use metal implements unless they are stolen from others.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Ogres have below-average hearing and sight, on account of the smaller size of their head. Their sense of smell is rather strong though. Some Ogres are born able to wield magic, though only elemental magic and only one element per Ogre.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Ogres will give their children names that are minor alterations of their own. Since they don't keep written records, these names tend to recycle after a few generations.

Beauty Ideals

Ogres of both sexes will proudly display scars earned in combat as badges of honor and testaments to their capability as a mate.

Gender Ideals

Females who are not warriors are expected to remain pregnant at all times if possible. They are generally left home to care for homes and fields, while Ogre men are almost universally raiders or warriors.

Average Technological Level

Ogres farm simple crops, and make primitive wine as well, but still use stone tools. They understand that metal implements are superior, and will accept them as tribute to spare travelers or steal them from villages whenever they have the opportunity.

Common Etiquette Rules

If armed travelers are accosted by Ogres it is a well known fact that offering them sufficient gifts of food or goods will buy them safe passage, at least one way. This doesn't extend to caravans whose guards are not of sufficient number to cause the Ogres to worry about losses.

Common Dress Code

Ogres will clothe themselves in animal skins, and sometimes armor that they force Atlanteans to forge for them. They tend to wear clothes with the intent of accentuating and showing off their battle scars while attempting to cover any scar that was not received in battle.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Ogres often keep Gnolls as a sort of cross between slave labour and domesticated cattle. They will often work with Minotaur as partners, and serve Harpies and Sirens whenever the bird-monsters encounter them. Ogres are quick to offer their service to unique monsters that they encounter.
