CONTRACT FOR PROTECTIVE SERVICES

STATEMENT OF NEED

We, the independent smiths operating within Neverwinter's Chasm District, hereby contract your services to investigate and resolve a pattern of harassment, sabotage, and intimidation that threatens our livelihoods and the free practice of our craft.

SPECIFIC INCIDENTS REQUIRING INVESTIGATION

Recent Attacks Include:

• Deliberate sabotage of forging equipment (tools damaged to fail during use)
• Contamination of quenching materials
• Intimidation by individuals claiming guild authority
• Destruction of Thedric Gearwright's workshop (total loss)
• Threats against multiple independent craftsmen

Alleged Perpetrator: Unknown parties, possibly connected to organized criminal elements or rival guilds

Inconsistencies Noted: The attacks show signs of professional coordination and inside knowledge of smithing operations, suggesting this is not random vandalism but a targeted campaign.

CONTRACTED SERVICES

Primary Objectives:

1. Investigate the source and authorization of attacks against independent smiths
2. Determine what organization or group is behind the coordinated sabotage campaign
3. Identify the specific individuals responsible for the attacks
4. Gather evidence sufficient to present to Neverwinter authorities if needed
5. Neutralize the threat to independent smiths through legal or appropriate means

Secondary Objectives:

• Recover any stolen property or materials
• Document all evidence of wrongdoing for potential legal proceedings
• Ensure the safety of threatened craftsmen during the investigation

COMPENSATION STRUCTURE

Base Payment: 200 gold dragons (to be divided among party members)

Performance Bonuses:

• +50 gold for identifying the true perpetrators
• +50 gold for recovering stolen/damaged property
• +100 gold for fully resolving the threat without bloodshed

Expense Reimbursement:

• Reasonable costs for investigation supplies
• Healing potions (up to 50 gold total)
• Information gathering expenses (up to 25 gold)

Total Potential Compensation: Up to 400 gold dragons

RESOURCES PROVIDED

Information Access:

• Complete testimony from all affected smiths
• Access to damaged workshops and evidence
• Introduction to key witnesses and contacts
• Maps of relevant locations in the Chasm District

Material Support:

• Basic investigative supplies (rope, chalk, magnifying glass)
• Temporary safe haven at coalition members' workshops
• Emergency healing supplies (2 healing potions)

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: This contract remains active until the threat is resolved or 30 days have passed, whichever comes first.

Authority: Contractors are authorized to:

• Question witnesses and investigate private property with owner consent
• Pursue leads beyond the Chasm District if necessary
• Take reasonable defensive action to protect themselves and coalition members
• Engage hostile parties if attacked or when preventing imminent harm

Limitations: Contractors may NOT:

• Damage property without clear legal justification
• Act against individuals or organizations without conclusive evidence of wrongdoing
• Reveal sensitive information about coalition members to unauthorized parties
• Abandon the investigation without 48 hours notice

Legal Protection: The Independent Smiths Coalition will provide character witnesses and legal support if contractors face charges related to legitimate investigation activities.

PAYMENT SCHEDULE

• 25% upon signing (50 gold dragons)
• 50% upon identifying perpetrators (100 gold dragons + applicable bonuses)
• 25% upon resolution (50 gold dragons + remaining bonuses)
