Traditions of the Northmen
Whilst the Lords Alliance has no holdings in the region technically defined as "Icewind Dale", since their occupation of Luskan, they have had a greater level of trade with the nations of the north. This has led to a melding of customs, and the Northmen have a very distinct and unique culture.
Within the Lords Alliance, the cities of Mirabar and Luskan would follow these traditions.
"By the dead, I told you, you can never have too many knives!" - Fourclover
Chefs
The most important man (save for the chief) in a collection of northmen is the chef. The sharing of stories around good food is so important to the people of the north, that the chief's chef is often their best friend and personal advisor. Named Men
The north is a tough land, full of hardy people. Those who go above and beyond, demonstrating strength, cunning, resilience or honour are granted the privilege of a name. This name is usually a noun of some kind, and denotes what makes them special. It could be as simple as "hammer" or more metaphorical, like "threetrees". Either way, these named people are highly regarded in northern society, and their names are stories unto themselves, known by every child and warrior of the north. The dead
The dead are deeply respected in northern culture. The phrase "by the dead" (kinda like "oh my god" in real life) is uttered so regularly in the North as almost be an official motto of theirs. The people of the north do their best to honour the glorious dead, and to never forget their names or deeds. Challenges
Any rival can challenge a chief, which they are honour bound to respond to. They both enter a circle, each bringing a single weapon of their choice. They then flip a coin. Winner gets to pick which weapon they use (either the one they brought or the one their adversary brought). Then it's a fight until one dies or surrenders. The winner always becomes the new chief. If the other person survives, they have to work for the winner. Names
As detailed in the PHB; Illuskans are tall, fair-skinned folk with blue or steely gray eyes. Most have raven-black hair, but those who inhabit the extreme northwest have blond, red, or light brown hair.
