The Order of the Many Starred Cloak

200 years ago the order brought utter chaos to Neverwinter, killing hundreds of thousands and seeking to bring magic fully under their control. It was the machinations of the order which led to the spellplague, when the Archmage, their leader, killed the chosen of Mystra in a bid to seize all magic for himself. This was, however, thwarted by Deneir and Lathander. The gods secured the weave and ensured the survival of magic (for the most part). Their more recent attempt in 1492 involved siphoning all the souls of the city's inhabitants (in the event known as the soul sweeping), and using the power therein to steal all magic for themselves, obtaining a level of power to rival the Gods. Only the swift action of immortals bane prevented that from occuring, when the order was defeated in the battle of evernight.
(Neverwinter was left in a near ruined state for several months between the soul sweeping and the battle of evernight. Whilst in this state, Neverwinter was referred to as Evernight, due to the large smoke clouds constantly shrouding it in darkness).
