Lathandars disappearance, and The Selune Supremacy
In 1502 DR, the God of life and light, Lathander, disappeared. He was also the God of the sun, a role which Amaunator now fulfills. Amaunator already existed, possibly as an aspect of Lathander, but now is the sole sun God.
Selune, the Godess of the moon, who originally helped to create the sun, was now in a weaker position against her Evil twin sister, Shar. Selune is traditionally thought of as holding back the darkness of night, with her injuries caused by the ongoing fight against Shar causing the moon to wax and wane.
It's not known how, but after Lathanders disappearance, Selune gained an immense amount of power, which had a bizzare range of effects.
Firstly, the Lunar and Solar cycles became much more unified. This has led some to believe that Lathander housed some of his power in Selune, or perhaps it represents an alliance between Selune and Amaunator.
Secondly, Tides in Toril became much more powerful.
Thirdly, the full moon became visibly larger in the sky. A consequence of that is that Lycanthropy became much more potent. While it could previously be kept at bay by clerics and wolfsbane, it is now nearly incurable. Neverwinter had issues with a band of Werewolves in the darkwood for decades after this event, until they were sequestered by the Guild of the Eternal Flame.
Finally, the occurance of lunar eclipses increased. Partial eclipses now occur regularly every 72 days (previously they occured roughly every 180 days). Total solar eclipses occur roughly every 5th eclipse (it actually averages out to every 5.1 eclipses. I did the maths lol), meaning total eclipses are now an annual event. Before the Selune supremacy they occured every 2.5 years. Unfortunately, despite the relative recency of this event, very few specifics are known. This is because the ongoings of the Gods are almost imperceptible, only the consequences are generally visible on Toril, with what elements become more or less powerful.

In Art
A famous art piece, the Selune Supremacy, is where the myth takes it's name. It's a large renaissance-style painting which sits in the ceiling of the cathedral of light, and depicts Selune standing in front of a solar eclipse, commanding a legion of angels towars Shar. Lathander lies dying at the bottom, a silvery arrow piercing his heart, his body glowing faintly. Amaunator hunches over his body, crying slightly while reaching for the sun with his right hand.
