Aerial Ranger Corps

"All you see is a shadow - a blur soaring through the sky, and then nothing. That was what made them so formidable - an airship you can see, shoot down. How do you stop an elite soldier flying through the air at 100mph?!" - Sgt. Hawley, 1648.   The rarely used, but deadly efficient, Aerial Ranger Corps are amongst Cormyr's most formidable weapon.    Long hailed as the masters of the sky, Corymr established the ARC to achieve two strategic goals: reconnaissance and assasinations.
The ARC would observe the battlefield at altitudes too low for Airships, deliver messages when magic wouldn't suffice, and then dive down and take out their target with brutal efficiency.   Made up of a man wrapped in thick leather armour, attached to a canvas and dragonscale wingsuit, strutted with lightweight featherwood. The wearer would often be trained in various magical schools, powerful evocation and abjuration for combat, and conjuration for communication and travel. But most of them prefer to use a lightweight mithral shortsword, engaging their target in melee and flying away when the mission is done, or if the tide turns against them.   Owing to their expensive, bespoke suits and arduous training time it is believed that they number at most 100, spread across the entire sword coast. Cormyr's relatively smaller population and industrial capabilities (compared to the Lords Alliance) are the most cited reasons for their small number.   Cormyr says that a member of the ARC has never been killed in action, a claim the Lords Alliance protests (with little evidence to suggest otherwise).   In the current time of peace, the ARC have primarily been fighting seperatists in on the Tomseri border, and acting as messengers.
