The Seaside Town
While many towns and cities in
Ayrith are coastal, perhaps none are so dependent on the sea as Portus Cale. Though the Royal Navy may be stationed in
Veros, most of the shipbuilding takes place here. A city of sailors, pirates, traders, and explorers, Portus Cale is often bustling with mercantile opportunities and enticing rumors of faraway lands. It is a rough-and-tumble town, well known for its tavern brawls, loud harbor, and hardworking culture. Its architecture is not opulent but is more of an urban sprawl of shops, docks, shipyards, and guilds, built of simple yet sturdy wood, stone, and bricks from clay taken from the coast. While Portus Cale does have a lord, common wisdom says that the guilds and factions have the run of the place here. To make headway on just about anything, a visitor will need coin or power, ideally both.
