The Leper King
While Derarose did not found Daeruin, he was the emperor who oversaw its expansion and conquest of the many kingdoms, city states, and tribal lands it now rules over. Often called the Leper King, the old emperor's face, body, and limbs are marred by the disease. It showed its face when he was very young and with no surviving siblings or children, he has been forced by birthright to sit upon the Obsidian Throne and rule—and rule he has. Despite the cruel misery forced upon his flesh and bones, he is a stoic man, never complaining about his condition to anyone. He is often said to be serene and otherworldly, always calm and detached. For someone who has seemingly no real attachment to worldly things, his rule has been distinctly marked by conquest and material acquisition. Derarose is a monarch who is known for making productive use of his time. Knowing his days are numbered and he will father no heirs, he has been tirelessly working to secure his legacy for centuries. Inheriting the empire from his mother, Empress Vlaasti, also known as the Flame Child, he had his work cut out for him in terms of ridding the realm of dissent, hatred, and fear. While he did not alleviate the pains of imperialism, he did bandage them with wealth, prosperity, and glory. Expanding the empire in all directions, it has served as a profitable boon for some and a genocidal nightmare for others. A polarizing figure, he is possibly the most consequential ruler of the age. That being said, his rule is destined to end in upheaval. He has named no heirs, blood or otherwise, and his ability to play the bloodthirsty, ambitious lords of Daeruin off each other can only last so long, especially now that war has come to his shores.Physical Description
General Physical Condition
He is frail of body and not physically capable of much physical exertion. A leper, his hands are minorly afflicted and his face is more extremely disfigured. His health is ailing.

Apparel & Accessories
His usual attire will involve stylish dark robes befitting someone of his station. He often wears a long dignified cape. Most notably, he wears an ornate metal mask resembling a beautiful smiling face as well as a dark veil around it, with his crown on top. He also wears dark gloves. Most of his clothing is made of silk and expensive materials like ermine.

Derarose is a pragmatist. He will tend towards logical, straightforward arguments and explanations. He does not hold much ideology nor does he understand those who do. Concepts like honor, piety, good, evil, and individualism are foreign to him.

Despite the reputation of the dark elves as being a deeply spiritual people and the theocratic nature of the empire he governs, Derarose is an irreligious person. He regards the gods as likely real but not of any interest to him. To his people, he defers all spiritual matters to the Sentinel, the spiritual leader of his realm, in order to appear modest but truly it is out of a lack of interest or belief. He is suspicious of religious belief.

Naturally, the Basileus is very wealthy, he uses the state's assets as well as even his own personal wealth to fund immense projects across his empire including irrigation to combat the natural issues of such wasteland terrain, aqueducts, investments in the academies, especially those of the military, and to boost the empire's technological output. On a personal level, he has put an astronomical amount of wealth to build his private library.
