Kaol'Arai The Grey Dread

This powerful elven being is one of the Baelnorn, an elven equivalent of lich - they usually guard places or objects important to elvendom. This one is Kaol'Arai, The Grey Dread, an ancient Bladesinger who, instead of going for a well deserved rest after death, turned into a guardian of his family's heritage - Omentielva, a strange jewel glowing with 'darkness' of unknown origins. Ages ago, Omentielva was such a temptation that even wars were made to get it. Kaol'Arai spent his entire life trying to protect this precious token of his family's pride. The gem was stolen, taken back, hidden, unveiled, almost destroyed, saved again etc etc throughout millennia, but, at the end, through incredible efforts of Kaol'Arai and his family, gem was hidden deep into the crypts and sealed. When the young elf's journey had ended, he realized one thing - there is no rest for him. That is all he had known since his teens - endless fight and fear. Having found no joys in life after sealing the Omentielva and secretly craving for another fight over it so his life becomes meaningful again, when his years came to an end, he swore ancients vows to protect it even after life. He thought life of a powerful elven lich-guardian would provide at least echoes of that previous life of his - the thrill of threat, feeling important and appreciated, a stampede among the foes. Oh my, he could not be more wrong. Instead, he got endless waiting, hovering furiously along the narrow corridors till the end of fucking times, checking the same trap for the 5000th time, only to realize Omentielva has been hidden so well that any knowledge of it had long passed with their bearers. Nobody could possibly still know what it is or, even more so, where it is located. So, through another millennia of waiting, our pointy-ear poor bastard grew VEEEEERY frustrated over his decision. Having been stuck between the prime and material planes forever, he didn't really belong to either. Alienated, banished, humiliated, he was hurt by one fact more than the others; that he willingly just condemned himself to the worst fate possible. So these are circumstances under which our Forlan meet his future patron!
