Humanity's Second Chance

Thousands of years in humanity's future, Earth is a desolate rock destroyed by humanity's avarice and pride. A single arkship, traveling for generations through empty space, finds a new world, or, in the language of those colonists, "Nerd."
But Nerd is not "Ord," the Old World, and without a symbiotic virus known as Manna, the colonists and their cultivations cannot survive on the planet. Once infected, the colonists do thrive, but their children, upon reaching puberty, begin to morph into subraces of humanity which they name Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Goblins, and Merfolk. Other plants and animals also morph into strange and sometimes deadly variants of what used to be on "Ord."
These changes are just the beginning, as, over time, magic is discovered and once again, humanity tries to end itself in its self-destructive quest for dominance. In the ensuing "First Great Magical War," dragons, lizardfolk, gnomes, vampires, and other monstrosities are created until Manna, which also fuels magic, is depleted to the point that a thousands years without significant magic allows the world to recover, and, once recovered, resume the war in what is known as the Second Great Magical War.
Now, 4000 years after landing (AL), this second war has concluded but humanity's struggles are not over, for new threats, new monsters are making themselves known throughout the planet and once again the world needs heroes to face those dangers and stop them.
