The Sunshade Project, sponsored and lead by Canadian scientists in an effort to hold back the effects of climate change, fails miserably. The resulting weather instability wreaks havoc across the globe. Alberta and Saskatchewan are devastated by the ensuing fallout. Suspicions regarding the failure of Sunshade are traced back to cyber sabotage by foreign agents, leading to the balkanization of the internet as nations and then cities wall off their data ecosystems. T95 Systems receives a massive government contract to install countless millions of miles of hardline cable through the USA.
