Whitney
Another poor district, wracked with gang warfare as the various groups struggle for dominance over the drug labs and protection rackets. This place is also a haven for organleggers seeking to harvest and move their product. The focus of the fighting centres around Sam’s Town, a major hub of commerce and trade that has become a flashpoint of gang violence in the last few years as several operations struggle to establish dominance in the valuable territory.
If someone you know has disappeared without a trace, odds are high that they can be found in Whitney... or, at least, pieces of them. A notorious haven for organleggers and snatchers, Whitney has developed a fearsome reputation thanks to the work of the Whitechapels, a brutal gang that has mustered enough power and reputation to seize Sam's Town for themselves. There's plenty of secondhand cyberware to be had there... so long as you're not morally squeamish about its origins.
Notable Areas in Whitney
Sam’s Town - currently the domain of the Whitechapels. A Massive cheap hotel and casino that is now the domain of the derelicts and the destitute. Used to be a prime cat house for the Mojave Company until the Whitechapels made their move. Parts of this longstanding establishment are dangerously unstable and leaning towards collapse. Better U Aug Clinic - Glitzy and colourful, run by a subsidiary of Chimera Internationale. Guards at the front door to keep it safe. Chimera reps claim that the cyber they sell here is pristine and firsthand, and that they have absolutely no relationship whatsoever with the Whitechapel ripper gangs. Jackrabbit Trucking - The base of operations for the Denver Dragons. Their warehouse and truck yard here serves to facilitate their smuggling and organ harvesting operations. The NVPD is paid well to avoid looking too closely. Fireproof Media Company - A film studio, in dire straits and struggling to attract talent to work here due to the violence. They’re desperately trying to make revivalist Western VRXP films, but are drowning in debt and acts of sabotage from rival outfits. What’s more, the gangs of Whitney are demanding more and more protection money to allow them to operate here, and ResTech has stated that Fireproof has to sink or swim on its own. The studio is run by Creed Durant, a former ganger turned film producer (lots of overlap there.) He’s a threatening, imposing figure who is haunted, lonely and angry. He almost always has hired company on his arm or in his lap, and sees to acquire more money by any means, fair or foul. He has a strong capability with information, and acquires it through the careful application of his resources. A potential opportunity for PCs is that he risked something or someone he loved on a lucrative opportunity that is quickly turning sour. He can often be found at a local gymnasium working out his frustrations when he’s not on set or in his office. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Charity Clinic - Overrun with rats, the doctors here try their best to help those caught in the crossfire. They also sell cadavers out the back door to the organleggers, and pay off the Whitechapels with parts from the dead to keep themselves safe from their depredations, such as it is. Citigov Building - Whitney Renewal Org has their HQ here, charged with fostering urban restoration and renewal in one of the worst areas in Neo Vegas. The building is protected by both an anti-drone system and a squad of Paladin Security experts, with gated access to the bureaucratic heart of the district. Red Angel Night Market - Within the confines of an old megachurch, the Whitney Market supplies the locals with everything they need, freshly hijacked from the desert. Pews have been moved aside to make way for pop-up tents, and the grand open space is filled with the smells of food carts, the shouts of hawkers peddling their wares, and the quiet hum of several drones keeping an eye on things from the roof beams to ensure nothing gets out of hand. NCPD are paid off by the pastor of the church, Bernadette Herrel, to prevent unneccessary attention. When the market isn't in session, Pastor Bernadette offers regular sermons on the evils of capitalism and collects sizable donations from her petitioners to keep the market running. T95 Electronics Shop - A T95 outlet store, well-patrolled. Better Living is just a purchase away. While most of the mall surrounding the shop is dead or overtaken by gang activity, this boutique outlet offers mid-tier electronics and cybertech for distinguishing clientele. La Jolie Pharmacopia - Owned by a Quebecois family from Lower Montreal. Sells a variety of pharmaceuticals and biotech products, some sourced from Chimera. The Silks - The new home base of the Mojave Company, this old department store has been converted into a pleasure house. As the Mojave Company also trafficks in arcana, the Silks has a reputation as a potential source for buyers of illegitimate enchanted items and elixirs, but the Mojave refuses to sell to anyone who doesn't come with solid references. Getting a Mojave mage to teach you anything is even harder. Hermann Office Block - A war zone between the Whitechapels, the Mojave Company and the Denver Dragons. Each abandoned office space is prime turf for their holdings. Whitney Junkyard - A scrapper's heaven, the Whitney Junkyard is where hundreds of cars, bikes and other vehicles come to their final resting place, where they're rapidly pulled apart by scav gangs to resell at local markets. Venturing in here solo is a bad idea without adequate protection, but more than a handful of gangs will be happy to sell you "scavenging rights" on their turf for a fee. The local Citigov employs grav haulers to drop refuse here indiscriminately, so always keep a wary eye to the sky so you don't accidentally get crushed by a falling fridge. The Swamp - Vulcan Construction was attempting to build a new housing complex here when the Free States Alliance launched their attack on Neo Vegas. While the city was protected from most of the direct damage, the Clark Wetlands hab block suffered a direct hit from the bombardment. The damage to the structure, combined with the work they had already done to convert the man-made wetlands into a proper ecological reserve for their ultra-rich patrons to enjoy, turned the area here into an overgrown swamp teeming with bio-engineered plant life. Vulcan is still trying to get Neo Vegas to pay for the cleanup, letting the ruin fester for the last few years while the litigation continues. In the interim, the Swamp is home to squatters, gangers and more than a few unnatural beasts that WATCHTOWER has yet to trap and contain.
