The Messengers of Dusk
The Messengers of Dusk - Specializing in Extortion, Pious and Familial. A fringe cult that has abnormally competent leaders who recently became entangled in the fight between the NLS and the Hotaka Syndicate. They seek to start up a profitable front business for their enterprises, offering “protection” from both the NLS and Hotaka. Dusk Cultists will often adorn buildings that are under their wing, exacting high levies from those who benefit from their protection and swift punishment on anyone who violates their decrees. They are a breakaway sect from North Las Vegas who are pulling in fresh recruits from the refugees. Their leaders have amassed a small trove of occult knowledge, which they teach to their priests and enforcers. They believe that humanity’s time on this earth as the dominant species is coming to an end, but those who wish to be safeguarded against the horrors wrought by the Outsiders can do so… for a price.
Culture
The Messengers of Dusk firmly believe that the apocalypse will come not with fire and ruin, but with darkness and extinguishment. According to the Outsider that leads the cult, Lady Dusk will snuff out the sun at the time of her own choosing, and only those who are gathered within the folds of the Messengers of Dusk will be spared from devastation. They use this ever-present doomsday preaching to bind potential recruits to them, instilling a fear of a nightmarish end times in them, persuading them to abandon their old lives to ensure their survival during the trials to come.
Public Agenda
The Messengers openly offer their protection to local businesses and residences, stating that their wards and charms will help protect those willing to pay from the Intruders that lurk in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity to strike. It is unclear as to whether the runes they inscribe on the doors and thresholds of paying customers have any actual effect, or whether its just an intimidation tactic meant to extort money from those gullible enough to fall for it.
