Sundered Tablelands
The Sundered Tablelands are the remains of a terrible battlefield between the Kingdom of Carminos and the Entente that opposed it in the years preceding a massive schism event. Incredibly unstable, these three hexes are aligned straight across wartorn fields and destroyed farmlands. The epicenter of a colossol shardshaping rite , most of the The Fold was rendered unrecognizable by all of realm's shards breaking connection simultaenously. Today it is a wasteland home to broken farmland, roving groups of undead warriors and disgruntled veterans of Foldein's innumerable conflicts.
Death in the Life Giving Soil
Before the cataclysm that destroyed Foldein, the Tablelands were the breadbasket of the old regime. A vast system of floodplains once laid the foundations to fertile fields of wheat that supplied plentiful grain to countryside. It is now the site of a terrible battlefield, a militarized boundary that held off the advance of the Kingdom of Carminos in a boggy mess of mud and human remains. In the last days of the war no cart, horse or man could make it through the place without getting stuck in the stuff and it had become a impenetrable lake of decay and refuse. Though much of the area has dried up, the spirits of men buried alive in the murk still haunt the place and their rotting corpses have been known to fight one another in the dead of night- a foul mimicry of their final fights.
Abandoned Fields
Much of the place retains its fertility, when the battle was mete many families fled their ancestral farms to avoid the heated conflict. Tools, animals and overgrown fields without a single farmhand to attend them are not an uncommon sight when one gets behind the drawn battle lines. Refugees, many of which are veterans of this final conflict, fight against the undead, extraplanar entities and arcane abominations that have crowded the plane in order to get a hold of their old homeworld. Knights, Mercenaries, Clergy and Mages alike all cast in the same position have been put into a strange predicament where they are also joined by outside forces to reclaim their land. With care and an eager sword arm one may yet claim these fertile lands for their own once again.
The Pit of Runes
A deep sink hole, hundreds of feet deep marrs the Carminean side of the battlefield. Rimmed by a circle of runeswords shealthed into the earth. Etched in a triplet of circles, this is the site where the dark deed was done and the lives of hundreds young wizards met their end drawing power deep from the aetherial caul around The Fold. This bore hole drives deep into subterranean limestone caverns and to the edges of the shard, inviting all manner of eldritch host into the cavernous galleries. Once holding an extensive haul of mana from all over Foldein, the leylines have long since became severed from the rest of the realm. Along the lines of the gaping maw a patina of magical crystal glistens in the torch light full of danger and potential. To adventurers and mages looking to harness the last dredges of power left from the ritual, surely a sizeable award awaits them for clearing the place of elementals and demons.
Between Two Places
The tablelands have long since played the role as a trophy in times of war, in times of peace placing manors upon the floodplains was a sign of power and austerity. One such manor was the prestigious Collegiate Hermitage, a vacation home for monarchs and during the end of it's service an arcane laboratory and planar orrey. During this most illustrious era of curiousity small villas popped up all over Foldein to introduce the arcane arts back into service of the elite. Hundreds of court mages were trained at the manor learning trades such as divination, alchemy, spellbook and scroll composition and an early attempt at shardshaping which would eventually spell the place's doom.
On such fateful day while most of the students were on break one of the master of studies had an experiment in the planar orrey in an attempt to open a portal past the edges of their reality and into the Nebula. Without the proper guide the academic had failed to stabilize the portal and the entire Hermitage slipped into the Nebula with no ability to shift back leaving all of the local villagers and absent students to believe it had slipped into a sinkhole. Upon recent events, with the shattering of the strong edges of the realm and the dissolution of the shards it had slipped back into the Tablelands and formed the base of a strong connection between the Sundered Tablelands and The Grey Sea.
