Nation of Beldan

Formerly an isolationist nation, their integration was and still has been difficult. They are cut off by the Belkan mountain range and their land is rocky . It is mostly unusable for farming. They instead devote their time to improving technology. In their time they’ve managed to build a vast overseas trade empire. Though after their integration those have fallen under the Dominion of the Flame.   They’ve managed to develop quite a few technological advancements. Many involving firearms and airships. Though they agreed to share these advancements with their integration, they only had to share the physical inventions, and not their designs. Compared to the rest of the Empire, they are the most advanced, steam and arcana powered engines allow Beldans to build faster than any other empire.   Their Jarl is quiet but firm. Jarl Lael III, Master of the Sky. The Nexun Drow is as unreachable as his nation. He keeps himself distant and is quite stoic in opposition to the more open nature of his people.

Structure

Beldan works on a modified Monarcy. While not genetic, the ones who draw their cluster's liniage back to King Lael the First's Cluster are the ones who can claim rule over Beldan. Otherwise they operate under a constitution monarcy.

Culture

Due to previous prejudices, isolation became the main way of Beldan. Despite this they maintain a great deal of openness to newcomers of all sorts. They live connected to one another's mind so they find outside perspectives interesting and illuminating. They rarely keep secrets and if one is discovered, is typically met with cold shoulders. That isn't to say they don't ever lie. Just know if one has lied to you then there are seven more who likely have as well.

Public Agenda

Beldan dose everything they can to allow everyone and anyone to have a choice in their destiny. Male and low born drow were in heavily oppressed before they rebelled and escaped the underdark. So they have no laws dictating social or economic class. Obviously they have laws decrying things such as murder, theft and anything that takes away the will of another person by any means other than lawful arrest. However they do not have a death penalty and their prison is a place criminals to reform.    What they want to do more than anything is advance. They want to learn all they can without anything stopping them.

Demography and Population

Beldan is almost exclusively populated Drow, Duergar and Deep Gnomes. They are a haven for the "stranger" races of Vallerin. It is not uncommon to find whole tribes of tabaxi near the mountains, tortles along the oceans, or Kenku and Hemofinch Aarokocra along the southern coast's thick, black wood forests. They are not common in cities.

Military

Beldan is the only other country to have a standing military. The Umber Knights are volunteers who joined in full clusters. Each cluster is a squad and they serve for life.    A squad consists of these roles:
  • Controllers: spell casters specializing in crowd control. Their job is to funnel any melee warriors into a place they cannot retreat from the Pikers. There are two per every squad.
  • Pikers: wielding long energy lances, these echo knights use their weapons to cut down the enemies funneled to them. There are three in every squad.
  • Long Gunners: gun stingers wielding heavy, repeating long guns. They stand behind the Controllers and pick off whoever is outside of the caster's range. There are two to every squad.
  • Commanders: the designated leader of the squad. They coordinate with the members of the cluster to keep them working together and to support them with magic. They are the healers and thus are protected behind the others.

Technological Level

They have found a way to meld science and magic and make their lives better. Beldan is considered to be in an industrial revolution!

Foreign Relations

Their stance is to keep to themselves. The government saw joining the Empire as the best way to keep from getting invaded. It cost them in sharing their technology with Empie, but it was a small price to pay in exchange for safety of their people. While they are open to outsiders, the government wont go aiding the Empire unless the situation is dire.

Laws

Beldan follows the typical laws of common decency. Thievery, rape, murder, kidnapping, and so on are all punishable with fines and jail time.    Their crime rate is low but organized crime is a major issue for them. Thus they instituted harsh penalties for lying while under Oath to tell the truth, and extend punishment to all members of a given cluster to avoid the other seven from breaking one out.

Agriculture & Industry

The grounds are hard and difficult to cultivate. What they do cultivate are root vegetables and vine fruits. Their wines are some of the richest in the world.   Their primary industry though is construction of great machinery. They created the Thunder Rail trains, Airships and the repeating fire arm. It is their primary export.

Trade & Transport

Anywhere in Beldan can be reached by either Thunder Rail or Airship. Every major city has both a Thunder Rail station and Sky Spire Dock for airships.    Their primary trade commodity is the technology that built these instruments. They have built many 'export' models for use around the Empire. These models are outdated by their standards and they never sell the newest models to anyone.

Education

The Empire's standard education is present but not e forced. Mostly imigrant and families that travel go to these schools. Primarily, the Beldan education system is designed to allow students to pursue their passions and interests with the aid of masters in each subject. From philosophy and psychology to the study of war and the function of weapons, Their people are some of the most educated in the world.

Infrastructure

Each city and even some small towns have a robust public transit system. They devised a way for the Thunder Rail to be smaller and safer to use in public areas. These are known as Spark Cables. And it is the easiest way to get anywhere in the city. The roads are all paved and most homes have indoor plumbing.
