Jormungandr

The largest city in Autusgurg and its Capital. It is the only such city in the nation as the other large settlements are closer to bustling towns and Duchies.   Jormungandr is a city named for the large river that runs through the middle of the city. The city's center is marked with an oak tree tens of feet high. The tree's roots arc over the river and is the center of Government for both the nation and city, the Circle of Oak.    The city has many bridges across the river to connect to either. Oddly there is also a northern and southern division along the Thunder Rail. The entire southern half of the city resembles something out of Solaria as settlers came and made a high class transportation hub out of a newly constructed southern district. Very few local born families go to the Silver Bed district and few who live in the Silver bed go into the city proper. Not when every import they could ever want was right there.

Demographics

Jormungandr is the most diverse melting pot in the Empire. There is no end to the kinds of people one will find living here. Autusgurg is the Material home of the Woodelves, Giants and Orcs. But over the years many have flocked to the region, through Jormungandr, to pursue a more quiet life. Everything from Aarokocra to Centaurs.

Government

The government of Autusgurg is very loose. The Circle of Oak is represented in Jormungandr by Jarl Matalia. She is the city's Lady (Lord) and has say in all law and policy matters. She has a rather gentle grip on power. While still uncontested, some some fear the banditry that affects the more rural areas will eventually come here and The Circle will not be able to e act a swift response.

Defences

Jormungandr is defended by Jarl Matalia's Captain of the Guard, Banren Oakformer. Banren is a female Centaur who leads the Oak Gaud. These are mounted guards who protect the city. Banren is also the one who will be considered Commander of any Army called up by the Jarl.

Industry & Trade

There is no large scale industry in the city. The city is a travel stop for international trade.

Infrastructure

Jormungandr is almost all dirt roads. The only roads that are paved consistently are in the Silver Bed district. Otherwise there are some cannals that have been dug to act as highways into the business districts on either side of the city. Through Druidic magic, everyone has clean running water. Deciples of the Oak Father work in shifts to maintain the city's plumbing system. And even purify waste water for reuse as to not over tax the river.

Districts

Eastside: The Eastside has little different from the Westside. They function almost as their own independent city, connected to the other city on the opposing bank of the river. Their trade district in the to the north runs cargo from River travel and the further south one goes, the more housing can be found.   Westside: Westside as little different from the Eastside. They function almost as their own independent city, connected to the other city on the opposing bank of the river. Their trade district in the to the north runs cargo from River travel and the further south one goes, the more housing can be found.   Silver Bed: The Silver Bed is what the locals call the Southside of the city. It is where the Thunder Rail passes through and stops within. A community made up almost entirely of migrant Solarians. This section uses the most quarried stone out of any building in Jormungandr. Here goods from the southern nations is brought in by rail and sold. Here is where one will find the greatest density of humans in the City.

Points of interest

Tree of the Oak Father: Seat of power of the Circle of Oak. The building is also where the city's government is seated.

Architecture

Made of simple wood and stone, pulled into shape by druid craft, the buildings of the city are rather small compared to others. They rarely go above two stories, opting to expand outwards rather than upwards.   The Silver Bed is the notable exception. All buildings are made from imported stone and are built as tall as they are able to!
