Description
Life cores are the one piece of the robots that are considered organic. They are a special fruit with electrochemical properties that the creator uses as a basis for each robot, more or less acting as the robot's CPU, memory, and long term storage -- like a brain. Each life core is unique in some way, giving rise to each robot's unique personality, strengths, and weaknesses.
Symbolism
Life cores are the "soul" of the robot symbolically speaking. From a scriptural perspective, they're parallel to the idea that good men bring forth good fruit, and evil men bring forth evil fruit, where the fruit is the heart of the man.
Both the villagers of
Kernelle and the citizens of
Grand Cluster set it as
the primary vital organ with symbolic significance; however, villagers tend to treat it more as the seat of their conscience and emotions (like the heart), whereas those in Grand Cluster see it as the origins of intelligence (like the brain). Both are correct.
