Jerrod

"Excuse me?"

Jerrod is the game’s player character. He’s an artificial intelligence specialist who constructed Blizz together with his wife.   When Jerrod crash lands on Nataal, he follows Ephraim back to his village Kernelle for help, then continues on with Ephraim to try to find the missing pieces of his ship, The Return.   He can be most plainly described as:
  • cynical
  • opportunistic
  • intelligent
  • atheistic
  • often reserved/conservative
  • terrified of failure, but when the people and things he cares about are threatened, and given no other option, he'll do the right thing.

    Show spoiler
Before the events of the game, Alice, Jerrod's wife, becomes pregnant with their first child. However, the pregancy puts Alice in danger of dying. Jerrod, in an effort to save her and the child, dumps both of their consciousnesses into an Artificial Intelligence that he had been developing, but neither of them seem to take hold of the new form.   Believing he failed to save either of them, he leaves the newly created AI behind, running from home to creat a blank slate for himself and get away from the guilt. Eventually, he blames God for what happened to him, mirroring the internal conflict of the game's antagonist, Eli. However, the truth of what happened still haunts him in his dreams.   That artificial intelligence, Blizz, eventually finds him again at the beginning of the game, just before the maiden voyage of The Return.
